Will shipping plastic protect the paint temporarily?

Do you guys think the shipping plastic auto manufacturers use would protect the paint of my 1LE on a temporary basis?
I haven't been able to get the permanent rock protection on my car (and won't be able to right now) but I need to drive it just a little bit for the state inspection.

In order to pass NYS inspection, all but one of the monitors have to be in. The car has to be driven about 30 miles to get the monitors in.

I was thinking I could put a layer or 2 of the shipping plastic on the sides of the car, go drive it to get the monitors in, have it inspected, put it back in the garage, and then remove the shipping plastic.

Thoughts?

I have a roll of plastic sheeting used to protect wood floors during construction that I use to protect fenders and front bumper during engine work. I've never tried driving with the stuff on but it clings very well and comes off clean. It may work better than stretch wrap. I picked it up on amazon for about $35.

I use a product called Trakk Tape at the track on certain areas - splitter and such. Really good stuff never had an issue with it not sticking when you want it to or in any kind of issues taking it off. Here is their website. http://www.trakktape.com/home.html

Stuff above looks good. I've seen people throw on a layer of blue painters tape in a pinch for protection on cross country treks

The white tape you are talking of that comes on brand new cars is made by Tesa. It is very expensive too. We use only Tesa tapes in my shop(Car audio). They have interior panel protection tape too, and we use a lot of their electrical tape. Its the OEM tapes used in most vehicles today from the factory. If you are looking to purchase it you can find a tesa store on facebook from a guy in stoneham MA, he was the first to bring it into the country for resale.

I was thinking of this:

http://www.transportwrap.com/

Not too bad a price. $70 for a roll.

This might be a better product than plain shipping plastic.

Interesting in that it says it should be applied in 3 or 4 layers in Coke-bottled shaped cars out to 12 inches in front of the rear tires.
That would certainly be our 5th gens.
