How to remove existing tint

I want to re tint the side markers on the car. What is the best way to get the existing paint off?

Hi SS-E-Ya,

If you have a tea kettle, bring it to a boil and hold the lens over the steam. The glue should release, but it takes patience. I've used this technique to remove stickers from plastic. After the film releases some Goof Off on a soft cloth should finish the piece to a smooth surface.

Straight ammonia, let it soak in it, check it every 20 minutes are so until the adhesive lets loose, and it will sooner are later.
Heat will help if you have a way of warming it while you are soaking it.

It's paint. Not vinyl.

P.S. Dont heat it up at all and no steam. You could try warm water with dish soap first. Use a sponge.

Tried goof off, no luck. Tried wet sanding with 1000 and 2000 grit, still no luck.

Is it possiable that it was already sanded and that is why its darker? Are you the first owner of the car.

No I'm 4th owner. The reason I'm wanting to re do them is because the tint in starting to flake off.

This is a bit stronger than goof off. http://m.homedepot.com/p/Klean-Strip...VM46/100122813
Paint thinner might be to strong but this dries quick.

Is that tint rubbery feeling? I ask because that looks a lot like smoke Plasti-Dip. If so, Goo Gone will dissolve it. If it's paint though, most thinners will not play nice with the plastic lens. You'd either need to be more aggressive with sanding or just buy new ones, but I'm guessing you have other, more expensive lights with that tint on there as well...

No, it's not plastidip, I've used that before on previous vehicles. The side markers are the only ones like this. The tail lights have a tinted cover over them. Looks stupid.
