L8T crank and rods

Have you seen this? Have you heard about this?

Is anyone preparing to run the L8T crank and rods to get to 400ci?

Should be a very nice boost in torque for us M6 guys.

What would be involved to run it? New main bearings, rod bearings?

Yes I have built 3 L8T short blocks, stock crank, Molnar rods and Diamond pistons.
All built for boost and nitrous.

Only “problem” is it’s iron block. Or would be a quick short block swap. Now looking only at crank and rods to lt1 pistons

I seen the iron part....

Also read that they came with cast pistons.

It'd be nice if there were a factory shortie with all the forged goodies instead of this rebuild a new motor game. :

only a matter of time and you can go right to the dealer to get a forged 400 cid block iron or aluminum.. engine is still new.

Make good power? Difference in smoothness of the engine?

been looking at the L8T stuff for awhile. the only time i can see it being worth much is like you said, a few pieces to add to an LT1 rebuild. otherwise i think it'll be a dud. iron block, less compression, and most likely won't have sodium filled valves. i think the cam profile will ultimately determine the stock long blocks potential.

We need gmpp on this one to make an aluminum l8t engine with lt1 pistons and the lt376-535 heads/cam. I’d slide my new cam in there and it’s good to go.

Hopefully we can bring this back up. It's really weird how you can search online and find 50 of these stupid articles about the new GM truck motor and how its going to give everyone this magic cheap stroker kit, and now nothing on it, you would have thought at least some shops would have bought some and marked them up and resold them.

The only shop or anything about it online I have found is from mast, and for whatever reason they sell you the crank and bearings but not the rods?

Honestly I don't understand why you can just order the regular GM L8T crank and rods and slap them on a LT1? I mean GM does this right? Isn't the LT1 and L8T block the same, just cast iron? If you are asking about bob weight of the crank I guess it isn't just a drop in there must be extra balancing involved.

So I am not talking about swapping here, I am talking about using what I already have and just dropping the L8T crank and rods into my LT1. I am going to be pulling my motor and it would be such a waste not to add L8T parts for more displacement and have to put my motor back in like it was haha

Ok I see now, after reading some more info, I see they are cooling jacket changes, which I don't get why that was necessary?

L8T is iron block. Piston and ring pack designed for HD truck use. Not saying it wouldn’t work at all, but far from the Easy Button.

Ohh ok, so you would have to go to aftermarket rods to use your existing LT1 pistons and that would require more machine work and rebalancing anyway.
