So I haven't seen it yet. What did you do?

Especially be a man , and confess. Not that you drove 32 mph and boom!

I had similar damage on my L99 #7 cylinder when I hydrolocked it. I also snapped the rod, but the piston skirt looked just like this. It messed up the very bottom of the cylinder wall. On mine it looks repairable, but I wont know for sure until I get it to a shop. Maybe you will get lucky.

This is it.
I saw burnt piston, valve damage, broken or bent connecting rod, punctured block.
But I never saw a damaged piston skirt without any other sign of contact.

Yeah, something isn't right. That skirt damage is a result of the rod coming in contact with it at severe angle, which means his rod was doing something it should not have been able to do unless there is other damage...bent rod?

Of course the piston could have cracked and just failed at that point, but it really does look like the rod shaft hit it.

This is what mine looked like:

If a skirt gets hit by a connecting rod, I understand that.
But according to the photo that Speeddmn linked, it looks like the connecting rod is fine.
That's why I was surprised.

I see you weren't bored either

Similar damage here in Europe would mean the end of the car. Importing a new engine with transport and taxes would be unprofitable.

So back story. I’m a service advisor at the GM dealer here, transport truck came in dropping off used aution bought vehicles. This black camaro was on it and had a dead battery. Snagged a jump box to help the worthless driver that didn’t have one. Started the car and it had a horrible knock!! Weird, sales side buying cars unseen... so anyways, made a 2 vehicle deal to get a clean 99 1/2 ton z71 and this roached camaro. I know all things are rebuildable and currently my labor is free ish.

Here is a pic of the crank when i took #5 rod off... but yea the cylinder walls actually look really good. There were a few extra odds and end pieces of timing chain stuff in the oil pan.

Holy crap! That looks like it was daily driven like that lol.

Damn, this should be a bargain for you to get back running well. What are your plans for it?

Short term is get motor rebuilt, thinking TSP 376 rotating assembly, and stage 2 cam AFM/DoD delete. ZL1 front bumber since original was trashed. Get the minor odds and ends fixed and either flip or enjoy it. I have a 2005 Mustang GT with a vortec v2 I love, so why not have another toy!

The car itself is black, black leather, 2ss/rs. Early production code, sunroof, brembos etc. interior needs a couple touch ups but nothing major. Guess time will tell.

Got car back from body shop. Pulled fuses F5 and F20, let sit over night, and reinstalled. Looking for something else simple to do.
