It'll add volume and power and the stock exhaust sounds pretty wicked with them.
Do you have to get a tune with the headers? Installed to the stock exhaust?
What would happen if you were to install long tubes and an aftermarket exhaust without having it tuned?

Would the engine run too lean or something?

Yep, gotta tune it.

Has anyone tried installing the LTs to the stock exhaust and not done a tune?

Headers or primary cat deletion (which Headers accomplish on their own) require a tune. If you don’t want a tune and want it as loud as possible, you can get a full catback that bolts to the back of the primaries and deletes the secondary cats. Borla and Corsa and AWE and others offer it. Axle backs or short X pipes do not do the same job.

Will deleting the the secondary cats turn the engine light on?

It shouldn’t, as they are not monitored. Modifying anything without tuning is always a gamble, though.

And definitely don’t do headers without tuning. It actually won’t run lean or be dangerous at all (confirmed no change in AFR on my car), but you will likely get a check engine light that will be a bitch to get rid of — even if you decide to tune it later.

That black ZLE with the LG headers sounds perfect! If I was ready to tune I'd just have done that.

I put mine up on the lift today, plan on installing a stainless works catback this week when I get spare time. Doesn't look to be a popular choice, but keeps my NPP and I liked it better than the borla, or simply losing the option completely.

I came from a 350 also and I feel like I can barely hear this car sometimes, even with the fuse pulled. I may rig up an actual on/off switch for the valve too, I can't stand how the car will close it sometimes even in track mode. Just gotta see how loud this catback is first.

I also wish my ZLE was louder. The tone of the exhaust is perfect, I like when after the throttle input reaches a certain point in highway cruising the exhaust gets deeper.

The volume is just too low. I’ll probably keep the stock mufflers and just do long tube headers in hopes of getting the volume up but keeping the stock tone of the exhaust.

By the way, I am one of those that loves the way the 350R sounds. It’s one of the main reasons I’m considering one.

I'm 5'11" 165-ish. I really liked the narrow Recaros in my GT350. I like to be locked in. The cockpit of the Camaro fits me pretty well though. I drove a Challenger SRT8 for fun and felt like I was a 14 year old in my dad's car haha.
Na, if I thought it was a reoccurring issue I'd not have bought this Chevy

Actually...

2015 ZL1 had audible knock on CA91 octane gas. The car always maxxed out the knock retard under medium-heavy throttle. I had to have the car tuned and voided my warranty but then it ran excellent.

2017 Grand Sport Rod Knock on Cyl #5 -- engine replaced under warranty. After the swap, it happened again on another cylinder (I forget which) so I gave the car back to them.

2017 Z06 Strong hesitation issues when applying moderate throttle around 4k RPM in gears 3,4,5,6,7. Dealership was never able to resolve it even though they did reproduce it. Guesses were fuel pump, traction control sensors, limited slip, etc.

2018 ZL1 1LE So far so good but I'm only at 1100 miles. However I did crash it after 4 days of ownership. Some dude forced me into a center divider and trashed the entire front end. $16k worth of damage. But that wasn't the car's fault

EDIT:
I believe the 2015 ZL1 was just an issue where the ZL1 didn't like CA91 gas as it was tuned for 93 which we don't get in CA.
The Grand Sport was just bad luck, it happens.
The Z06 is the one that really pissed me off because I had the car a year and they couldn't fix it. But it probably wasn't engine issues.

Kooks 2", no cats, Flowmaster Outlaw NPP.
I got on it alittle at the end...
With the NPP, the programming adjusts the valves to help eliminate any drone or rasp. Mine has a 2 sec rasp at 1600rpm and the valves adjust it out.
You DO NOT want to pull the fuse with this setup...it is RAW, even for me!
In Stealth mode it is docile.

Headers + no cats, did you have to tune?
