Car stopped backfiring after cold air intake :(????
I have a '20 1SS and it only has a Corsa axleback on it which didnt change the exhaust backfires at all from stock
last night I threw on a cold air inductions cai and now the car barely backfires at all??? air fuel mix change? that sucks imo... I rather have the pops than +4 wheel horsepower lol. I wouldn't have bought it had I known. If the GM performance version of this intake gets an ECU reflash when installed at the dealer does that mean this one from cold air inductions needs that too to put the air fuel back where it was? yes its a cold air inductions intake, and its lined up and installed properly. Im hearing from some people after a few hundred miles the MAF will fully recalibrate and the pops come back, has this happened to anyone else?

The CAI and GM intakes look the same but there are internal differences in the design that require the calibration adjustment that gets loaded by the dealer. The CAI unit was designed to work with the factory airflow calibration. The car will adjust to the new CAI so you may get some or all of the sounds back. You may be able to accelerate the learning process by disconnecting the negative battery cable for a few hours.

Drive your car. You don't need to do any "reset procedures". Go drive your car; the computer will adjust your fuel trims and in no time your "pops" which is exhaust scavenging / low pressure colliding with high pressure pulses on deceleration will be back.

It fixed itself.
First drive after the intake prob 90% less pops 2nd and 3rd drive about 20 miles each, no pops at all Drive 4-5 completely back to normal So if this ever happens to anyone else, just drive and let the MAF recalibrate. Thanks for the help guys |

Gmpp has no fins. That’s why it needs a tune. You should be ok

He meant the burble tune Chevy has, I imagine an intake would affect it until the car learns.
