Yep you are in the right direction or get a Chevy Performance CAI to maintain your warranty.

I use a roto fab and it’s been great. Very good quality and fit. I’ve seen the GM ones too and those are also nice. Prob can’t go wrong with either one

I bought the GM CAI, if you do the install you can take it to your local dealership and get the tune that comes with it (verify with the dealership ahead of time to make sure). I had one dealership want to charge me extra, even though the tune is included in the cost. You do not need to get it tuned, but you are paying for it if you purchase the GM CAI.

I did not get the Rotofab CAI so I do not know if there is a tune available (probably not needed regardless).

Don't think they really do much performance wise, but aesthetically they are much more pleasing to look at than that ole butt ugly OEM box.

My GM dealer wants to install it for me (at a charge), Do the tune ($165 more) and charge me list price for it $525 They are trying to bend me over so to speak for a negligable performance upgrade.

They told me that is the only way to avoid voiding my precious warranty.

Find another dealer.

I agree with gtfoxy, find another dealership to work with.

At the same time, the install was easy (I managed to do it and am not mechanically inclined at all)... I actually enjoyed doing the work. I also went and did a ported throttle body afterwards as I built up my confidence while playing with the car.

Maybe call around to a few dealerships in your area, let them know you plan on doing the install yourself and that there is a code that comes with the part for the tune. When you get the part right on the top page of the installation instructions there is the code and instructions for the dealership regarding the tune.

Install it yourself and take the car to the dealership to have the tune/update done. That’s what some members here have done.

Unless the policy has changed since 2018, they are either uninformed or lying. The price of the GM kit includes installation and flashing a new calibration, the dealership will get reimbursed by GM when entering the correct code. I paid nothing extra for installation and recalibration back when I bought the car.

I had to pay for an hour of labor for the installation but the calibration (tune) was free with the labor code in the kit.
