Break in and first oil change.

Just purchased a 2021 zl and it has 4 miles on it. I’m sure 10 different people will tell you different break in procedures are but was wondering what zl1 owners have done. Also wanted to know when you got your first oil change, my salesman said 6k miles which I don’t exactly agree with. Thanks for replies.

Go by the owners manual recommended service intervals and your ZL1 will be fine!

During my break in I didn’t baby the car but I didn’t trash it either. I put about 300 stop and go miles on it in stop and go local driving, sometimes stretching it out a little but not to redline. I then drove it 1300 miles from TN to Colorado where I was moving when I bought it. Did my first oil change and rear end fluid change upon arrival in Colorado. A year and a half later, I’ve had no issues.

I've driven mine like a bat out of hell from day one. First oil change I tried 5W30 which it used a lot of and now with 0W40 which it doesn't use any of.

Otherwise no issues (other than those associated with continuous mods).

As per GM...first oil change at 500 miles then 1500 miles. Tell your salesman to read up on the literature. This isn't a Silverado!

I've always been amazed at how sales folks sometimes have no idea what they're selling.

ALMOST makes me want to go be a salesman for a month of a few vehicles I'm familiar with, mostly GM cars and trucks.

Manual says to keep the RPMs below 4K ( I don’t remember if it’s for the first 500 or 1500 miles).

Change engine oil at 500 then again at 1500 ( it’s cheap insurance).

Change rear differential oil at 1500 miles.

Yep opinionated topic. I go 1000-1500 miles for an oil change because I believe in getting that out of there at that time, but otherwise I don't flog it with throttle or brakes but I drive it like I intend to do every day. I'm really not a believer in "break-in" of anything.

Here's the Chevy performance LT4 crate motor break in procedure. Follow this guide starting at step #6. You do not need to do the first oil change until 500 miles (i.e. skip step 10).

Steps #8 and #9 are for seating the rings and should be done as early as possible after 30 miles.

500 on my 1st
1500 on 2nd

Going in Saturday to get my first oil change in my winter beater. 2020 Acadia AT-4. 5000 miles. It gets no respect.
