Made it to the final but bent an exhaust valve at Street Car Takeover

Magnuson is a Sponsor this season for the Street Car Takeover and we are heading to St Louis next weekend for some Roll Racing and Drag Racing. If you want to come out to Roll or Drag come on. We will also be at Twin Peaks on Friday night and Gateway on Saturday the 1st of June. Gates open at 10am. I'll have a tent setup and we will have a few Maggie Camaro's in our Booth. Drop by if your there and say hello. Track goes hot for Roll Racing at 1230 and Drag racing will follow Roll Racing eliminations. Should be about 430. A bunch of different classes so bring it if you got it.

Thanks for the invite. It was great catching up with all the Magnuson folks. There were some crazy fast cars at the event, but the little Red Dragon held her own.

One thing for sure, the Magnuson Camaro's parked right at the entrance were sure getting a bunch of looks.

Thanks Russ, we had a good time till the motor broke. I had everyone covered in my class and never had to make a full pass till the final. However that's when things got interesting. The car had been spinning the tires hard in second gear and I had the Mustang covered all day as far as et and mph. I spun the tires in second in the final and was reeling him in at about a 1000 ft the motor laid over and lost the race. Came up the return road and every light on the dash came on including the check engine light. I knew then there was something bad wrong and it was missing badly, barely made it back to the pits where we had our Magnuson booth set up. Had a misfire on the driver side. Moving ahead got home this morning, put it on the lift and no fluid under the car, that was good. I pulled the valve cover off, everything looked ok there. Did a compression check starting on number 7, then 5, then 3 but 1 was a different story. Guess what, no compression in that cylinder. That really sucks, I'll know more tomorrow after I pull the blower off and head off.

So sorry to hear about this! Has to be disappointing after just getting that motor together. Although that's how it goes with this kind of stuff, non-the less it still sucks. Curious to see what you find out. To run what you did on stock internals, then to build a motor only to have this happen.

Yep, I think its something in the valve train and not in the short block. Tune was perfect and this is a forged Manley Pistons and Rod setup, just polished the crank. Pretty costly for sure. The car was flat out fast to, running 140 mph in 90 degree heat with high DA. The engine builder lives about 10 minutes from me so he's going to come by today to see what he thinks is going on. Man with the Camaro Fest coming up its going to be tough to get it ready to go.

I am sure you are frustrated after all work that was done on the motor. Hopefully it is not to expensive to get back up and running.

The engine builder is coming by this morning and do a leak down, that should tell us a lot. Hopefully its a bent valve or something like that. Even when I broke the ring lands on 1 and 8 they both had compression, 1 has none so it sounds like that but not sure yet. I'll post late once he provides his opinion. I hope its in the valve train and I can get that fixed before the Camaro Fest but if its in the short block that won't happen. Nothing indicate its in the short block so fingers crossed.

Well I finally got the blower and drivers side head off, looks like number 1 exhaust valve is bent or the valve spring is broken and the valve is hanging open. That's a good thing for sure. Don't see any damage other then that. So I think I'll still make the Camaro Fest as long as everything else goes ok. Would hate to miss it.

Well thats about the best news you could get at this point! I was hoping it was only a valve or spring! Quick fix!!!

It did nick the piston just a little. Plan on sanding the sharp edges, new exhaust valve and a spring if needed and put it back together. Cylinder looks great so should be good to go.
