The Supra is no match for the SS. And it's not like GM to battle an inferior car...except the Mustang that is. If anything Camaros are the underdog against more powerful and way more expensive cars. So I think the comparison was good. I think it says a lot for a V6 Camaro to stand up to a name like "Supra" knowing the history of both cars.

The proper comparison is the Supra vs a Camaro 2SS. BMW's B58 inline 6 turbo is vastly underrated; it's over 400 crank hp and in the lighter Supra results in a power to weight ratio similar to the SS's. The 2SS is also closer to the Supra in price.

I like the looks of the Supra, especially how it eschews retro in favor of a new and original design language. It has a cool samurai vibe to it. Is the Supra beautiful? No, I wouldn't say so, it's overcooked much like the Camaro. The Mustang and Corvette are the only cars in that price range that I would consider beautiful.

for nearly double the price, the supra should be able to beat the V61LE.compare it to the still lower priced SS model though and things get real equal in a real hurry.plus,at the end of the day its a camaro...merica.and lets not compare it to a vette thats a year or two old to keep price equal.

The v6 camaro did not stand up to the supra in the slightest bit

The supra demolished it in acceleration and handling.

The supra is definitely a match for a ss 1le

0-60 and skid pad numbers are right there with the SS 1LE. It is way too early to tell, but there is more evidence pointing to 'yes' than 'not really...'.

Pretty shocked by these numbers though, I am still not convinced and I am not sure if that is because I was NOT expecting such performance from this car or what.

There's more to competing than just performance numbers though. Or, maybe that's just how I feel. Just something more special about Camaro than a Supra.

This ^

I did not expect the Supra to put up the numbers it is. Maybe because I didn't expect much from it

I think the SS1LE would outperform it on the track

Not to mention it's basically a BMW in Toyota gear...

This isn't a Supra in my opinion...

Considering it's price point the performance isnt all that impressive to me. Mid 50s is asking a lot for that.

1997 Toyota Supra Turbo

MSRP: $39,900

Adjusted for Inflation: $63,687

2020 Supra Mk V Premium: $ 54,920

So adjusted for inflation the Supra is actually a better performing, lighter and cheaper car than the old Mk IV.

Seems like I always read that BMW engines are "under-rated" (yes I know...can't happen in today's world...blah blah blah) so it doesn't surprise me at all that this thing gives the SS competition in a straight line.
IIRC Both BMW and Toyota do not submit to SAE certification.

Compared to:

The market very strongly disagrees...
