Under drive balancer
What is the big deal with the under drive balancers on the NA motors? I'm assuming its a weight thing to lighten the rotating assembly, but does it make more hp or better ets? Has anyone done a back to back with stock and switched to the smaller dampener? I know a lot of the SC guys run a bigger lower to not have to run such a small pulley up top. With my Camaro I always ran the stock lower with my Magnuson's.

How much under drive would a Lt1 need to make that but not affect the other accessories. I was thinking about my next mod since I just did my Ported MSD, it made about 18 more rwhp then the ported Lt1. Should run some 10s Wednesday night.

The balancer is really worth 10whp on an NA build? I'm planning to put my bolt ons and tune here in a month or 2...should I just go ahead and throw on a balancer too? Is it worth it without doing a cam and heads.

I wonder if auto or manual would make a difference. Does the weight from the torque converter, especially when it’s unlocked so the fluid is doing it’s thing, would absorb some of the harmonics.
I can say for sure, on a manual car, the ATI is a huge difference in the motors NVH quality, much more premium feel holding a 3,500 rpm rev

Can you share how hard/easy it is to replace the OE balancer with the ATI underdrive unit, can you still use the stock belts, especially the the stretch fit A/C belt. How much of a bitch to pull the OE balancer, need a puller correct? and who has the best price on the Balancer? |

Well on my C7 its a pain in the ass so I'm marking that off my list for now. Its about a 6 hour job and 600 bucks for the balancer and pulley.

Honestly, not worth the effort or money unless you were trying to squeeze every last HP out of your car that you could.
Or maybe if your stock HB was going bad and you needed to change it. |

Agree with you that actual performance (such as measured on the track) is much more important than dyno numbers. |

Wow, what makes it a 6 hr job? on the C7. I agree its harder to get down there on a C7 versus a Camaro, but WTH. Belts are my issue, does the 10% underdrive make it necessary to get custom belts? what do ya do, quess on how much shorter the belts needs to be? The camaro has two, the corvette only has one and the tensioner may take up the diff, but what about that pita stretch fit a/c belt on the Camaro? Realistically trying to fiqure if its worth the potential hard work, but am intrigued on the probable 10 HP increase, I have done more to chase less.
