MSD makes more power under the curve and top end where the LT2 falls off. Watch this video by Pray and read what he says in the comments https://www.facebook.com/prayperform...0058441668543/

I guess it’s who you believe is right/telling the truth. Lots of different mods have claimed unrealistic gains.

Below link is titled:
Ported LT1 MSD Intake Manifold vrs Non ported LT1 MSD is it worth it?

https://youtu.be/CHduqq-oQgw

So many variables, it also depends on who ports it. But in the end it’s the time slip that confirms the build.

I looked at it like it was worth the $200 I paid over my stock LT1. I have a hard time swallowing another $1000 for a plastic intake manifold. Then again, I'm hardly ever at the track and don't actively street race. I do things that make the car faster/more fun. Can not beat the hp per dollar ratio of the LT2. Now if your going after every last hp and ET because you are chasing a number, then it's MSD on a N/A car.

I’ve seen the LT2 manifold flex under boost. But it was completely shaved top and bottom.

If there’s enough boost to flex a shaved lt2, I would be surprised it wouldn’t compromise the clamshell seal on the msd

I just swapped out my Ported Lt1 Weapon X which made 447/478 to a Ported Tony Mamo MSD, we were on the dyno yesterday and made 464/476. I always run on the same dyno and temps were real close to the last time we were there in April. Hope to see those 10s pop up on the time slip since we ran 11.009@125. I think we can get into the 10.90s at least. I know its not an Lt2 but just a comparison I thought I throw out. This was on my 2016 C7 Lt1.

do you have a dyno with the pulls overlayed? maybe post it in one of the msd threads.

I don't we just looked it up on his computer but I don't have an overlay. I actually just looked at the graph and it was 462.58/478 (464 corrected) We pulled it 7 times and started out at 452/459. Didn't change the fuel or timing but worked on the Cam angle. I normally do most of my tuning but there was a guy there tuning a couple mid 2000 5.3 singe turbo trucks and I asked him to look at the log and then he looked at my tune. He was changing things that I didn't know existed but he worked it out and we stopped at the current number. I took a picture of a couple pulls as the Dyno shop was having problems with his printer.

You can see where it fell off on the Ported Lt1 and continued to make power to about 6200 or so on the MSD

This will really help my 1/4 mile et and mph I believe. We've working on keeping the car in 4th gear thru the traps instead of letting it shift just before the traps.

I know everyone is wanting that big number for mod changes. Much is in the tuning and it probably won't show up on the dyno, it will show up at the track. For instance I added long tube headers and only picked up 17 rwhp but ran almost a half second faster after we installed them and retuned. There is just no way to tell how fast you'll go at that track compared to the numbers on dyno. I understand when your spending way over a grand for 17 or 18 hp but its the accumulation of mods that will show up once you hit that magic formula. So Wednesday night when I go to TnT at my home track. If I run the number I think I will then I'll be happy and if not I may have wasted 1200.00 for a used ported MSD. I don't think it will disappoint me, we will see in a few day.

You will be happy either way because you either improved your times or at the very least you got to tinker around with your car. I stopped mentioning the money count to myself and just enjoy the adjustments to my build. Nice you found some extra tuning insight from another tuner.

Thanks, I knew nothing about what he did in the tune but it was interesting to watch the changes. I've really spent very little to be where I am now compared to running low 9.00s as I did in my Camaro. The car has really responded very well to the small number of mods and tuning that we've done. We could have probably pulled another 5 or 6 hp out of it but it was more important to me to get the torque back to where we were with the Lt1. I wanted to have that low end for the 60' times I've had, didn't want to lose that since we've been 1.56 with 447 rwhp. Not that many can say that. My other tuner I had been working with from the Corvette forum wasn't available when we were on the dyno but he's the one that got me to 11.00@125. My tune had basically stopped me at 11.08@124 and couldn't really pass that number. He worked on shifting pressures, shift timing and rpm/mph. I know 8 hundreds doesn't sound like much but its not easy sometimes to get where you want to be. Plus he helped me to go to the finals at the NMCA in St Louis in the Proform Rumble Class. Lost the final cause I had my worst reaction time of the event. Haha, I'm just old.

Your results make a lot of sense. Another member compared a ported LT1 and ported MSD on his bolt-on SS, both manifolds ported by the same guy too, and he gained almost 15 hp with the MSD over the LT1. Pretty similar results.

Thanks I do think it is even though they were ported by different companies. I'm ran an 87 mm Katech Ported TB on both IMs. I may consider a 95 at some point but not for a while.
