Scratch And Dent COPO!

I have a new (unexpected) project. I currently campaign some COPO Camaros in NHRA Stock Eliminator. The cars pictured are two of the five CRC cars built in 2016. On the right is 2016 CRC 003. This car was used to develop direct injection for drag racing. It was featured in Hot Rod magazine amongst other things. The car on the left is 2016 CRC 005. It won Stock Eliminator at the NHRA Southern Nationals this year.

Unfortunately, the 005 car had a little bit of a top end wreck at the Rockingham NHRA points race. My friend Chip was driving the car and was not hurt. The accident happened at 140 mph which speaks volumes for how good the safety equipment is in these cars.

We are going to fix it. I started taking stuff off today. The factory frame rails are in surprisingly good shape!

Yesterday's warm weather motivated me to pull the LSX 409 and ATI Powerglide. It looks like both were unharmed.

The same can't be said for the wheels!!

There were a few that had it out with the wall last year. These cars run a 9" tire on the rear and just a little out of the groove can cause some issues on the big end. They are not an easy car to drive, especially the Supercharged cars and they run 25 mph faster thru the traps and they get up on top of the tire pretty easily. These are cars that once they start to skate its hard to get them straightened back out. Most fun to watch for sure.
