Today I ordered the rear diff fluid and the engine oil filter on Amazon. Gonna swing by the stealership and pick up a case of the motor oil later this week.

Dealer did first free oil change at 500, and I paid for diff service at that time. I'm sure they thought I was nutty when I asked for that service. I just had the diff done yesterday at 2000 miles at a Valvoline oil change place, and there was a big clump of metal filings on the drain plug, and the diff fluid was very dark and nasty. Really glad I had it done.

I'm going to have the oil changed at 5000 miles, and do the diff and transmission at that time. Oil is cheap. Parts and labor are expensive.

Makes you wonder how a corporation survives doing business like that.
There must be someone we can contact to give us folks up north a realistic answer to this situation?

It wouldn't be fair to all the US owners, as this is a GM CANADA issue, but to get this on ASK AL would probably get to the bottom of the problem?

And much appreciated !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So no where in the manual does it say a 500 or 1,500 mile oil change is required.

I'm aware of the reports of shavings etc in the rear end fluid but why change the oil so early since it's not break in oil. Mine came with 0W-40

It says it in the engine break-in sheet, which is somewhere around on this forum...When a dealer gets a crate engine, it's the manual it comes with. 500/1500 mile oil changes.

But other than that, yes, technically this engine would probably be fine to never change the oil on for 10,000 miles and you might never have an issue, and I'm sure somebody would claim so. On the other hand, you'll have people that change at 500/1500/3000/6000 etc. and never skip a beat. The secret to a well functioning engine is lubrication. Oil changes can never hurt. Besides the $100-$300 they may cost and the time, they have no downside. That's all.

I can't see why your manual wouldn't say anything about the 500 or 1500 mile service. they must have changed the manual for the 2019 model year.

here comes more confusion on this topic !!!!!!

Yeah, I totally get it and mine is going in today for one, but just wanted to be clear as far as warranty and such it's not mandated anywhere in the 2019 manual.

Didn't mean to cause confusion but was hoping I missed it somewhere.

Becky and I both sat down and combed through the manuals and it wasn't there. I had originally planned an oil change in Memphis but decided to finish my trip and do it at my dealer that I trust and can possibly get some pics or video of the gear oil coming out.

Got it done yesterday. No metal on the diff magnet for both fill and drain plugs but did have the normal grayish slightly dirty look.

All I have left how is DOT4 brake fluid.

I have a new 2018 ZL1 vert, does it come with the magnetic drain plug or do I need to install this part like I did on my 2013? I also ordered the OW-40 oil filler cap.

It has a magnetic diff plug but not an oil plug. You'll need to order one if you want one.

Dimple Magnetic Drain Plug M12x1.75 - $35
