Daily driving my A10 and am extremely pleased.
Always seems to do the right thing at the right time. Right to 6500 BAM repeat as necessary under full throttle. Drives great and seems to find the right gear immediately as needed. Performance shift mode on track day was a thing of beauty. Accidentally hit a paddle and my first instinct was manual to auto on the shifter to keep letting it do its thing. No regrets.

I went from the A8 2016 SS to an A10 '17 ZL1. Like others have said, there is NO comparison. It did take me a bit to feel confident when someone crept up beside me and wanted to roll race (not that I condone that on a public roadway....)
Now that I know the car well, I have no issues at all. This beast has multiple, multiple personalities. Learn them all!! The only complaint that I have with the automatic, is when someone wants to hear the exhaust rev. I was at a stoplight the other day, and 2 younger guys wanted to hear how mean it sounds. I had to slide it into park to rev it.

I go back and forth between my ZL1 vert A10, and CTS-V coupe A6. Hate the transmission in the V, love daily driving the A10. Clearly auto vs manual is a driver's choice, but taking the subjective aspect away, objectively, the A10 is a superior transmission to the manual and I love driving it everyday

I was a big complainer about the constant jerky 3-4 shift when in manual in my ZL1 but that has subsided substantially which I find sorta strange if that issue was indeed a programming problem?? Anyone else notice this?? |

Almost all of my many performance cars over the years were Manual 3-4-5-6 speeds.
I was on the fence with the ZL1 given the manual bog. But was looking at only M6es at first. Then I made the mistake of driving an A10. This auto takes none of the thrill out of the ZL1. It is awesome in Performance mode and a great cruiser in slush box mode. I just drove the Z 2,600 miles to Florida and back. With the A10 it's an all day in the seat car. I really don't miss shifting and now enjoy driving and where I am going more than my manuals. The car is ALWAYS in the right gear. What I do miss though is getting a clean 1/4 mile with a good launch and perfect RPM (shift light) no-lift-shift quick shifting. Drag racing now is a little less engaging. With an auto your only skill to develop is the launch depending on track conditions. Then just hold on and enjoy the scenery. However if Autox or road tracking was my thing, the bog does not matter, and I would definitely choose the M6.

I read up when it was introduced with the big plans for both companies & understand a 650hp / GM & Ford truck / suv used for pulling will have different application & needs. I received my ZL1 March of 17 & have a little under 4,500 miles on her. I got my company truck this past April & already have 43,000 miles. The ZL1 is so smooth under gradual acceleration it's hard to notice the shifts & the ford not so much. I did think the Ford would be similar under normal driving, but like I stated it's a bit more twitchy. Example, If I accelerate at moderate pace say 50% throttle & let off once up to speed, the Ford will sometimes struggle like it's deciding to where to settle the gear. It's nothing horrible or maybe the Z is exceptional. I would think that even the Raptor & the regular F150 may have slight changes between the two?? |

You mean like a slower animal? Lol. Jk. I had a Whippled GT PP manual. It was fun shifting. But sometimes I got sick of it. Rides up the coast with a lot of stoplights....got old. Test drove an A10 GT and I can see the appeal of the A10. It felt almost as quick as my blown GT. Quick shifting and just mash and go. You can’t go wrong with either in a ZL1 imo.

Mine has been awesome aside from 3 things.
Number 1 is very rough up shifts from 4th to 5th. This only seems to happen when using the paddles with partial throttle. And it only happens about 20-25% of the time under these specific circumstances. When it does happen it feels like your foot slipped off the clutch. Anyone else have this? Number 2 is very rough downshifts from 4th to 3rd again only happens when using the paddles and only about 25% of the time. It feels like there was no rev match and a poorly executed downshift. I've heard of the 3rd-4th issue anyone else with this same 4th to 3rd problem occasionally? Number 3 won't effect you on the street and other people on here may disagree but I think there is a reason the 10 speed was not offered with the 1LE package. Mine will overheat on track after about 26 min of hard driving about 75% of the time. This will obviously depend on several factors, how fast you are, ambient temps, and track layout. Overall if you're not a track rat and you like shifting (even without a clutch) this is the trans for you. The effortless downshift to first at every stoplight will make you giggle. The way the car goes through the first 4 gears from a stop will take your breath away. To me the tall gearing of the 6 speed especially in 2nd makes it difficult to enjoy on the street at reasonably safe speeds. This is coming from someone who totally intended on going with the manual before I had driven both. If it's your only sports car and you love manuals then that might make more sense. I think the resale value for at least the next 10 years will be better with the 10 speed but that will probably change at some point. Also it is not comparable to GM's 8 speed it's completely superior to that trans in every way possible! |

Does the A10 start out in 1st or 2nd gear from a stop? My 12 ZL1 started out in 2nd gear unless you forced it to 1st.

Always 1st. No option for a 2nd gear start.
