Using cars to bring joy to kids...

New member and new ZL1 owner, but been in these forums a bunch the past few months researching the parts and mods I wanted to do to my car when it arrived.

Not sure it's a thing, but I guess I do cosplay with cars... carsplay? 2 years ago I bought a C7 Corvette and turned it into Lightning McQueen and have since done 50+ events with children's hospitals, Make-A-Wish and many birthdays and home visits... I never charge anything, just a nice excuse for me to share my love of cars with kids who may need a little joy/inspiration/happiness.

I was inspired to do this with my car because I saw an article several years ago about a guy with a Batman costume and a black lambo who visited sick kids and thought that was such an awesome thing to do.

I bought the ZL1 with the intent of turning it into another Pixar Cars character to run with Lightning... but the Camaro I ended up buying was pretty blacked out... halfway to Batmobile. So I decided to go full circle on why I started doing this and go all in on fully blacking out the car and acquiring a legit Batman costume.

Yesterday, I reverse trick-or-treat'd and took 100 bags of goodies to kids stuck at home this Halloween.

What I learned: Capes are totally impractical and get closed in the car door ALL THE TIME. The cabin height does not support 6'2" person with bat ears on and rear louvers, wing & small eyeholes make visibility bad.

The car specifics:

I love the look of the 1LE but wasn't sure about the harshness of the suspension, so since this isn't a track car, decided to go ZL1 and upgrade the wing and canards. Badges, exhaust and every other chrome parts besides the flow tie are blacked out. Lowered with Eibach springs and QTP cutouts make it go full Batmobile mode when I want the exhaust loud. I wouldn't normally louver the rear windows out, but felt it matched the theme of the car.

I think there's a little responsibility to maintain the magic a kid experiences when seeing their hero like Lightning or Batman, so I try and really focus on the details with my cars... including an engraved plaque in the trunk for Wayne Enterprises Applied Science Division.

Just wanted to say hello to the community and say thank you for some solid informational threads.

That's awesome. Good work! The ZL1 (w/ 1LE wing and canards) really does do a good job of pulling off the Batmobile!

I dunno after the Batman thing I'm thinking it's an excuse to let your inner dork out! :-P

But it's totally awesome you do this for kids. Adults can get over shit, but kids need that extra something!

Kinda like trick or treating last night.... My older boy is 10 and damn is it sad seeing kids waving at kids thru windows on Halloween...... Even sadder when a 10 yr old picks up on it....

My inner dork is very much an outerdork. Aint no shame!

And yeah, best visits yesterday were the unplanned ones where I just stopped in front of a house where a kid was playing with the family and got a shocked "It's Batman!" when handing them a bag of candy. Kids are resilient and will come out of this strong, but they feel our anxiety and stress and 2020 is hurting a lot of families.

That is an awesome car for a great cause! Good to see you bring joy to everyone since yeah, 2020 sucks.

I notice that kids seem to love my car, like when I drive by school zones slowly. Might be due to Transformers(Bumble Bee).

Absolutely a worthwhile endeavor on your part, and I know that the parents appreciate it every bit as much as the kids do - especially if they're gearheads.
