If you're looking for a track only tire....try the Pirelli DH compound slicks.

Few seconds faster than Hoosier R7's. Can get around 20-22 heat cycles out of the R7's....24-26 out of the Pirellis (and those are used scrubs that have a couple heat cycles already). The Pirellis are amazing. 305/680/19 would likely be the closest to the 285/35/19 in you OP.

I suppose better phrasing would be "tires that last at the track." I'm planning on getting a set of track only tires and moving down to a 19" wheel. From what I've heard from people the SUR4G is good for maybe two days total. Interestingly, the RS-RR can last for 4-5 days I've been told by someone that has first hand knowledge of running them on a mustang (similar weight). He has also run RS4's and says that the RS-RR is about 2 seconds a lap slower over a 2min track. But for $160 a tire vs $400 a tire I think I know what I'm going to get... Wish I had the $ for RS4's, they have a great reputation and I love the RS3's that I had.

Not track tires but I will run Kumho PS-91s this Wednesday. 305/30/19 and 285/35/19.

Not to thread dig, but am curious if you ever ended up going with the RS-RR's, and what your experience was with them.

I have the original RS-R on my Ion Redline and they have worn like rocks, but that car weighs 700 lbs less than the Camaro. Am pricing out and figuring out track wheels and tires for this upcoming season.

I saw mention of the Nexen SUR4G. Very cheap from TR in 275/40/18. I got about 12 events out of them, 2 track days and the rest auto-x including the San Diego stadium lot that is brutal on tires. They remained fast up until the last event, a Porsche Club a/x with 20 70-second runs... they gripped hella well the first two sessions and then fell off a cliff in the final session, not corded but close I think. Good tires, durable.

I've run the rsrr in 375/35/19 at one autocross so far(i don't drive my car much). Driving to Autoclub Speedway in Fontana was torture. The noise on the road was bad. I could hear it from 30 to 90. The faster you went the higher pitch it got. Wet traction was bad, worse than I had on the SC3s. But this was new brand new tires and cooler temps. They may be a little better when scrubbed in more. Autocross in the wet was like dancing on ice. But when the surface dried out there was decent grip. 275 is a little small for this car but it did okay. Time wise, I was about the same as when I ran the SC3s. If pace stays the same as the stock tires, I'll likely keep running them as they are much cheaper. I paid $580 for my set thru amazon.

How about any performance differences etc etc with the Hankooks?

Yes and no. For $164 each, my Nexen SUR4G tires gripped pretty close if not equal to what the top-flight street-class 200 TW tires will do. And they lasted. Now I've got some Yokohama A052 tires, 200 TW but apparently not SCCA-legal for street, ST or CAM classes. These Yoks were just under $200 each and felt as if they are better than the RE71R. However, those Yoks don't come any bigger diameter than 18", and they're not on special anymore.

If you shop hard and use a size that's made by several manufacturers, there is usually a good track tire out there at a fair price, although it may have compromises.
