GTR is a sick car, ive had the pleasure of driving several including a modded one that ran mid 10's. Its probably the most impressive car ive ever been in. I was also a service advisor for nissan and the one responsible for handling GTRs. Oil change in nowhere near 1k, the rest of the maint is expensive but not terrible. They also came out with a trans tune to help with the damage from launching. The thing still plants you so far back in the seat you cant move

Err what Japanese counterparts? The Asian automakers didn't bring anything remotely performance oriented until we were deep into the 80s and even then they were very rare. They kept all the good stuff over there until the past decade or so.

"and I wonder how these will hold up over time. See alot of old muscle cars around, not so much the japanese counterparts." Insinuating that Japanese cars of the past haven't held up well. I wonder if you don't see Japanese counterparts because they didn't hold up well or because they were produced at a ten-thousandth of the volume. . . I didn't realize a 2,300 lb, 160hp I6 powered 240z coupe was a counterpart of the muscle cars of the 60s and 70s. Who knew? |

i never said that at all. and the z car has always been a performance based car. no it didn't hold a candle to the domestic cars, but that's no shocker.

It's what a lot of muscle car guys moved to once the fuel crisis hit. I has a former co worker sell his Road Runner for a 240z and I was like but he said it was really nice a upgrade over the big car at the time.

differing views on the definition of performance. asian/german performance is about barreling through a road course, light and nimble. american performance is how fast you can go 0-xxx in a straight line. its only in the last few decades have those lines started to blur.
so typically, you aren't going to see many americans trying to hold onto old japenese or german cars to restore and cruise with, and the same for japan and germany....part availability, general acceptance and pride will keep each continent fixing and restoring their own makes/models with those occasional oddballs that go all out on something from across any pond to be unique and deal with the ridicule of being different.

Before buying the Camaro I looked into a GTR. One thing put me off: the sales guy attitude. A 4WD car that can NOT be test driven in the rain, I'm sorry... Anyway, glad I went for the Camaro Nice looking Challenger BTW |
