'96 Corvette auto vs '11 Camaro LS M6
My cousin has a '96 Corvette collector's edition autmatic and thinks my Camaro LS M6 would be a very close race. I think the Vette would take me. He points out that the Vette only had 300 HP, but I think it is putting out more torque...around 350. We're getting together tomorrow to drive each other's cars, so I'll let you know what I think. His is bone stock escept for the rear wheels - he has 12" wide tires on the back. the only performance mod I've installed is an Airaid v2. So, what do you all think? Once our track reopens, we may head out on a tune/test night to see what they will do. After a few practice runs, I figure I'll be lucky to hit low 14's, but expect him to run mid to high 13's.

If you had the SS LS3 you would bury that Vette.

Well, we took turns driving each other's cars, and we were both impressed. It was pretty much what I expected. The V6 Camaro is good, but it isn't going to beat the '96 Vette. My cousin was impressed at how hard the V6 pulled, and thinks it would be close, but now agrrees he would take me. He has a lot of experience racing at the strip, and took me for a spin in my car to show me what it could do with an experienced driver. I was impressed. The LS is quick...not just for a v6. He actually liked the stick; said it had a pretty short throw for stock. Before the Vette, he had a '96 Cobra with some mods. With it he ran a 13.36. Doesn't seem all that fast, but he always had to take it easy coming off the line. On that occasion his 60' time was 2.28. He said he never was able to get it to hook. If he had kept it, he was going to work on that with some mods.
