No WB O2?
I hate to admit that for over 2yrs of being in the Gen 6 platform I have yet to use my HP Tuner in the ScanGuage mode. Nor have I done any in-depth digging into PID’s.
I came across a post the other day that stated GM is STILL not utilizing a WBO2 on these cars. Is that true? |

Even my wife’s ‘08 CX7 DSI utilized a wide band O2.
For Chevy not to use one blows my mind. |

GM is still not using a wideband O2. Most of us just use the AEM 0334 one since it communicates over canbus and can be datalogged in HP Tuners.

Good info. What are the benefits for them to use a narrow band O2 sensor vs. wide band? Just trying to understand why they might have selected one over the other.

A wide band operating system relies on a set voltage input for A/F tables &, on Cars I’ve logged, does not go into an open loop operating status (after the O2 has warmed up). The “PE” is based on a feedback system rather than a calculated PE number running blind like a NB system. This enables things like Injector offset & other sensor variations to have a lesser impact, yet in most cases more easily diagnose a malfunction, especially under WOT conditions. In my experience, which is admittedly somewhat limited, there is no downside to a WB operating system. Add: One area I can admit is a limitation is in the application of one sensor being, in a given range of error, relied upon for critical fueling. In other words if the O2 is say reading extremely lean there are tables that extrapolate hypothetical A/F & compare them to the sensor output. Outside a given voltage range, in a specific operating parameter, the PCM triggers a fail safe control & triggers a O2 code. This actually happened on the CX7 I mentioned. I had never had a chance to see the inner workings of a DSI system, outside of diesels, so I began snooping around with logs. Then when an O2 went bad, subsequently taking out the cat, I had log data to fall back on & present to the dealer. I saw what i described in terms of the fail safe as the O2 would begin to misread after about 20 minutes of driving. Last edited by gtfoxy; 10-02-2020 at 05:24 PM. |

I know it’s off topic, but here’s a tech-y question for you guys. I have an 18 SS 1LE and made several bolt on mods including heads, cam, and intake. Recently I have had an issue with the engine fan staying on after shut down and the temp gage not reading. Almost like the ECU is not getting temp signal. My fix has been to disconnect the battery and then it re-sets and is fine for the next few start-stops. It is random, but is happening more lately.
Any clues as to what is going on here?? |
