This is a good idea for sure! So basically buying Vette OEM C7 Z06 CCB discs and front pads and swapping the center rings and hardware from the OEM ZL1 discs over?

Do you have the factory torque specs and hardware pricing by chance for new bolts etc? Figuring these are torque to yield.

That price is crazy good too. lowest I have seen C7 Z rotors for is $1309 plus shipping each, not to mention the $400-500 pads. Where is this at if you dont mind?

Took the leap... I reused the hats off my ZLE rotors ( hats are aluminum for those curious ). Soaked them in evaporust or similar juice to take off any rust - and minimize cleanup and then user little scotch brite discs to remove any aluminum oxidation. Afterwards, hubs took nice shower in fluid film which should seal out any future moisture.

Rotors I used are from a Alfa Romeo Giulia/Stelvio - probably others out there with same size (390x36mm) - 100% OE match for ZLE rotor. I got them by mistake at a good price, so I was quick to check offset, hat size and spacing in case I needed to return them. The rest of hardware I reused and torque to spec applying proper locking juices where noted.

Pads are from 2019 ZR1 - right around $500. Anyone need some spare temp sensors ?

Yes - pad sits VERY close to the rotor hat, but that same on Z)6 ZR1 photos that I have seen online as well. Plan is to jig pads to a sheet of plywood and have local water jet shop zip off mm or two. Didn't pay to close attention to orientation of spring pieces, so they are all turned a bit - may go back and fix and retorque them next time I have the wheel off.

How does that compare to regular OE parts brake job
ZLE front rotors are about $400 , pads about $250

Comparatively speaking, this runs about $1600 more expensive. Worth it, probably not, but I wanted to TRY. And now that leaves me with a set of OE ZLE pads new in the box in the garage! D'OH

PS. everything is brake dusty.

PPS. If still considering it - get yourself new pins, spring clip and that bolt (pin?) in middle if available - just fewer things to clean.

I'd just 'grind' the curvature of the pad a bit more, to free up clearance slightly. Other than that, looks fantastic!

Best regards,
Dave

Nice work! I’m curious did you weigh the old parts vs new parts to see how much weight you saved? And I’m with Dave; I’d try a simple pencil grinder to clearance those pads. Should be easy to zip off a mm

I should have, but I didn't. Should be about 14.xx lbs per corner less weight. As alternative to clearance pad, 4 1/2" angle grinder is about perfect size. I'll play with that idea later in the week.

The Z28 front rotors I've ran on my 17 SS 1LE off and on for a few years (with J6H calipers with J57 vented pistons) are right at 13# with a modified J6H hat. The 2018+ J6H front rotor (a bit heavier than the 2015-17 CTS-V rotor or 17 ZL1 rotor) is 32.4#. So, each front CCM rotor assembly saves a bit over 19#.

Vtor_ZL1, if you have not put the vented pistons in your front calipers yet (PN 19207043, one kit per front caliper), you will want to. If you track the CCM rotors much up front, you will trash your dust seals fairly quickly with the solid pistons (PN 19207044).

Relevant part #, current as of March 2022. Collected from variety of sources ( verify before buying! some of the pad print info was captured from online product images - not always reliable!! ). Tried to keep spacing neat, but forum makes that difficult.

Last bit was to clearance brake pads relative to rotor hat. ZR1 pads are quite tall in this area and left around 1mm clearance. Original plan was to have local water jet shop trim off a bit and call it done. Got as far as building jig for pads but then could not align down time w time at water jet shop. It was messy, but angle grinder got it done, combo of grinding disc and clean up w flap wheel. Dab of POR15 made it looks as good as OEM (minus the runs!)

For reference, I took off about 4mm (2019 ZR1 CCM Pads)

Love the initial bite of these pads and much lower dust vs OEM ZLE pads.
