Opinions

Kinda having some trouble finding what I want. It’s been a hectic 3 months trying to find something without a dealership trying to make money off of me. A lot of them aren’t even willing to negotiate prices especially when a vehicle has been sitting on the lot for months in SC/NC. They have a habit of trying to tell you what you are gonna pay them rather than what you are willing to pay. In your own opinion, what’s a responsible price to pay for 2016-2017 Camaro 2ss. Just trying to get a general idea of where a fair price is. What’s too much/too little in your opinion?

Last year I bought my car a SS for 27,000 and the MSRP was 32,000 and depending on the options it could range from 27,000 to 30,000 dealership MSRP now. In SoCal, we have SS's available that have AMAZING options there is a Riverside Blue SS, with a CP Dual Exhaust, leather interior, and interior lighting and premium rims all for 30,000 with 27,000 miles on it. To be honest, if I waited a year I could've gotten a car then I have now lmao.

Is it me or the main goal of a dealership is to make money in the end?

If they weren't making money they wouldn't be there.

So yeah they will make money. If the price is not good for you, 2 things to check: are you looking for a price that is too low or are they selling it for too much? If it is the second one, then look elsewhere.

Good luck.

As soon as dealerships open up to regular customer traffic, and the owners demand pre Covid month end numbers, the prices will drop. Right now they know the guy that walks in really wants the car. Just hang on a little longer.

I've been in the car business since 1995. Apparently we're crooked because we want to make profit. I tell my friends to do this: check Autotrader or whatever source you like and compare It's rather obvious what a good price is versus a high one. Some dealers are con artists and mark up stuff 5-7000 over what they stole it for. That makes no matter to me, I too buy where I get the right deal after shopping similar cars. I usually buy new because used cars all have stories, crap wrong with them, and tough to find 2, much less more, than closely compare. On the flip side of dealers, MANY customers trade vehicles with known issues that aren't easily found on the quick dealer appraisal and quick run in and out of the service department. It's buyer beware on used cars IMO.

I was given 27k for my 17 2SS when I traded it in in September last year. The car is still sitting on their lot. The prices tanked shortly after I traded mine, I imagine they are in the gutter now. Used car prices are hosed right now but it started before Covid. Too many new models and buzz about them killed used prices. Covid was just the last nail in the coffin. Yea 27k for a pristine 17 2SS in 2019 might not sound great but having owned several Camaros/ Trans Ams over the years it wasn't the hit I was expecting. Buyers definitely have a bit of an advantage in the used market right now if they do their research. Just remember there is no such thing as a good deal at a dealership, they are always going to come out on top. Nature of the business.

If I find something, I normally have my cousin send me paperwork of the carfax since he works in vehicle retail in another state. I also take it to a shop while I test drive it, so mechanical issues aren't the problem for me, it just finding a deal where myself and the dealer can meet in the middle and walk away with an agreement.

Yeah, I've been walking away from dealerships very disappointed lately. It's at that stage where you're just like "ok this is getting hopeless" and I'm trying to just keep my determination up and keep looking and playing the waiting gam

crazy thing is, in SC/NC I can't find one dealer that willing to go 27500 for a 2016 2ss. They still try and charge prices that are way above what the car is worth. Also haven't had any luck with any of the dealers negotiating. They've been unwilling to meet me in the middle so I've been walking away from so many good cars lately. I've been asking for about 27500 for 2016, but they've been trying to sell them to me for 31k-32k. It's ridiculous.

A dealer gave me $24000 for my 2017 1SS with 46,000 miles on it. 6 speed. Brand new Michelins and front brakes. Just to give you a real money reference point.
