I ordered my SS without NPP. After years of listening to loud cars I wanted performance without noise.

That's the beauty of NPP, loud when you want it, quiet when you want it... Just the touch of the button...

Do you still have the '15 Mustang? If so I have great news: many GM dealerships offer a $2000 rebate if you trade in a Mustang for a Camaro!

If you're a loyal Chevy customer and have an older Camaro to trade for a new one guess what, they don't care!

The nice thing about the NPP is that you can pull the fuse that controls the system (F51) and the valves stay open all the time. I have a switch so I can turn it off and on. Not sure if the later models will let you pull the fuse without a CEL. Mine is a 2017.

On my 2020 2SS with NPP, I can set the exhaust to stay in any mode I want regardless of the driving mode using the entertainment system screen in the settings menu...

Also, NPP equipped cars are tuned differently like the Corvettes with sports exhaust. They supposedly have about 10 more horsepower, but the real difference is the over-run and burble in the tune.

A couple friends have modified exhausts the same as mine but bought the cars without NPP and they don't have the same thunder burble in the over-run because it's not built into the tune.

Hahaha... They love stealing customers from the longtime rival. Will trade it in. Thanks!

Thank you all for your replies. They were very enlightening. Will go for 2SS NPP with manual transmission. Quad tips look super! Will likely get a a certified preowned 2019 or 2018 since I'm not patient enough to do the break-in period. Will post photos when I get it.

You might have missed my earlier post. I noted that, unlike the Corvette, there is no performance difference with or without NPP. It’s 455 hp either way, which is why I opted against ordering it on my car.

But it does. Several threads on it and on chevys own website there's an explanation of it.
Apparently theres even a single tip upgrade that reduces back pressure and increases flow by 25%. Chevys words, not mine.

I assume since there is a different tune for npp, it really is closer to the 10hp the Corvette unoficially gets.

Same with the 2016-18 and 2019 models, but what GroundhogSS meant is that even if you lock the exhaust into track mode in the settings, the valves will still close in low load situations, say, at slower highway speeds and lower rpms. This is where pulling the fuse makes a difference, it simply disables the valve control mechanism and keeps them open all the time.

I think Petrol Head is right on this one. Here's my notes from Camaro Factory Fest in 2016, where I was able to talk to the engineer responsible for validating/certifying the CAI intake and GMPP exhaust for non-NPP cars (see below). Any power difference between NPP, standard, or even optional accessory GMPP exhaust (Borla) was small enough that they are not even advertising a power difference. "Pops and burbles" on the over run may sound cool, but does not increase power.

Notes:

CAI: He mentioned the tune corrects the MAF linearization table and was critical. Going through cert process with agencies is why it's taking long for them to release it. Without tune, you could see some level of power gain initially, but once system is in a learned state you will not see much of a gain at all. With their latest tune, they are not seeing enough of a gain in power to advertise anything (maybe up to 3hp). This speaks volumes to how good the stock airbox really is. I personally would keep the stock airbox, but if I was in the market for one I would definitely go with the GM part that comes with a tune and corrects the MAF signal.

GM PP exhaust (for non-NPP cars): He indicated from a flow standpoint, the GM PP (Borla) muffler is in between the base exhaust and NPP exhaust. Neither NPP or the GM PP exhaust provide any significant gain in power over the base unit - not enough for them to advertise any power benefit. They will instead be advertising the pressure drop benefit.

NPP exhaust: Has special tuning to inject small quantities of fuel on decels to cause the crackle and pop sound. This was Al's request. He did not believe the standard exhaust had this. I agree it sounds cool, but would really prefer to have the option to turn off that feature.
