A8 question

I reaD though about 100 pages about the A8 shudder. I have a 2018 SS with the A8 and I don’t have the “driving on rumble strip symptom” but Saturday I was heading up north and got on the freeway and got to 80-85 and noticed a very small RPM fluctuation, Mabye 50-100 rpm.
Is this a concern or and I over thinking it?
I have a range afm disabler plugged in for about 3 weeks and have 8058 miles on the car.
I got the car 5 weeks ago with 7499 miles on it and havnt checked to see if the person that owned it before me had it done.
Also I have a brand new gauge cluster put in under warranty 4 weeks ago because the tach and mph was off .
Let me know your thoughts, I think I might just be over thinking it.
Thanks every one
Richie

Regardless of the A8 shudder or not, you should still get the latest fluid and flush procedure done. With that said my tach did fluctuate slightly, and it was due to the onset of the A8 shudder. Now after the latest fluid and flush it works just fine with no rpm fluctuations

Yes, get the TSB done ASAP before things get worse (why didn't you do it right when you first read about the shudder and the solution?). Although, if your username is legit, just trade her for a McLaren 720S

I just seen the issues on line last Wednesday lol I also read some never have an issue. My 2017 Silverado has 8 speed and no issues and I have 61,000 on that.
I talked to the tech at the dealership and he said if it don’t make the shudder then wait. I can have it done this week .
So I was on the fence, I don’t want to mess with things if there’s no problem. But if you guys think it should be done I can have it done.
Lol no pasta rockets for me.

That’s good to hear. How long has it been since you had it done?

I had it done about 20,000 miles ago. The reason you want to get the fluid and flush done is because even if you don't have the shudder now, statistically you will have it at some point. Look at it this way....even if you don't feel the shudder time and time again, then all of the sudden one day you do. Well now it's likey going to have damaged the torque converter and that is obviously not good. And maybe by that time you'll be out of a warranty, which will really suck. Based on the odds and damage that it will likely inflict, you are best off getting the procedure done right now

Glad to help man. Of course it's always best to not drive it if possible, but based on what you said I really wouldn't worry. It doesn't sound like it's at that point yet. You are still under warranty right?

Yea only have 8058 miles or real close to that. Car wasnt sold till March of 2019(brand new to original owner). One more question, if the dealer tells me this been done , should I be looking for a certain date? Example, like if it says done one oct 2019, is there a date it should been done to have the latest fluid or procedure?

Service bulletin 18-NA-355 is the one you want. If they have that documented for your car you are good to go. Anything else is not acceptable

Thanks again! I hate letting other people work on my stuff but in this case I don’t have that fluid transfer machine lol. I see there’s differnt procedures if you car has the rear diff cooler? Did your car have the rear diff cooler? Do they reprogram the tranny computer after too or is it strictly a fluid swap?

I hear ya, I get a little paranoid about others working on my car as well lol. I have a V6 so no cooler, so I can't help you there. But the 18-NA-355 is universal for all GM A8 trans cars regardless of the model or trim. In my particular case my torque converter was replaced due to it being damaged from the shudder. According to my dealer it was a revised TC along with revised programming.

Fingers crossed I don’t need the TC replaced. I do it’s bugging me now just with thinking, I hope they torque all the bolts down correctly lol

How long did yours shudder before you took it in? How many miles you have on it when you took it in?
