Question for you,

Getting a ticket for tint, will 2 points go on my driving record?

I don't know your laws, if points were involved I would change it to legal, but if it's just a fine everytime I would leave it, you said yourself took year and half to get pulled over.

I can't speak for other states, but in TX an officer has probable cause to stop a vehicle which violates any statute under the equipment and vehicle safety standards.

TX Standards for Sunscreening and Privacy Window Devices

Buyer beware, just because something is sold by a retail auto parts outlet does not automatically mean its street legal or DOT certified. I've seen a lot of stuff over the years that is marked for off road use only.

That being said, my rat wont ever run WITH a front plate as required.

No worries there. Again can't speak for your state but in most, Tint does not fall under a moving violation. A just fix-it and pay-it.

In another life I worked at a tint shop and we would get requests for darker than legal ALL of the time. The reason given was so the police can't see the open beer I have . Soooooooooo, when you get pulled over for illegal tint and they find the beer, what then? Texas in general is pretty lax on enforcement, depends on where you live. The law is 30% film and glass combined (clean auto glass is about 70%) and is supposed to be controlled by state inspection. I am in Jefferson county which is fairly lenient, but there are several adjoining counties (deep east Texas) that will use dark tint as a probable-cause tool because of drug-trafficking along I10 and they know that Bubba likes beer.

I stay away from tinting my cars. I like making the cop get creative when they're looking to pull me over (which was often back east, though no tickets).

Back when i had my 3rd gen in new jersey i had a cop pull me over and the reason he gave was that i didn't have my headlights on 30 minutes after dawn (the official time as shown on something like weather.com) ... It was bright enough that my auto headlights had turned off.

No ticket, he was obviously fishing for anything else. Unlucky for him i always have up to date papers and dont drive intoxicated/drugged.

If you're only doing the tint for "looks", then you have a decision to make. Yeah, darker can look better.

Here in Louisiana, it's:
- 40% front side windows
- 25% rear side windows
- 12% rear window

I went with the darkest legal tint, but got the premium ceramic type of tint. As for heat, I've parked my car in 100% sunlight, on an 85* day, and the interior was probably less than 100* when I got in my car after 2 hours. And, none of the seat or steering wheel surfaces were hot - just the air. Cooled off in less than a minute with full A/C.

As for looks, because our cars have relatively small windows anyway, there isn't a whole lot of light in the cabin. It's pretty dark in there. So, the side windows LOOK a lot darker than the same tint on a regular sedan or SUV.

TLDR - I'm perfectly happy with my 40% - 12% tint job.

Personally, if I were a fan of dark/illegal window tinting I would go for it for looks, etc., until the first time I would be cited with just a fix it ticket. Same thing for front plates.

Once cited though, ok, game over, I had my fun, time to go straight...lol....

Not a fan of dark tint on the Camaro....Yeah, it would give the car a perhaps better look, but I can't see crap out of my side mirrors at night with dark tint....So none for me...

Besides, no tint is one less excuse to get pulled over....If it's a judgement call, I'll take it. Let the cop look in while driving and see a garden variety old white guy with no window tint, and even though I may be a little over the speed limit, it might save us both an inconvenience....just sayin'....

I never got the ZL1 and ended up cancelling the order. Very frustrating and pissed off to say the very least....A little burned out from the entire situation. I will be keeping my current Camaro a little longer...
Thanks for inquiring...
