NY legal is 70% on the driver/passenger door and they just enacted a new law that when you get your annual inspection they will now check for window tint. My tint shop has a "Special" now. He will replace the tint on the front doors for 80 and 20 to remove the old LOL

Tint and the look is one thing, but I would not want to be a LEO walking up to a 20% tint auto stop. LEO cannot see what is going on. When stopped, window down and both hands on top of steering wheel.
OP, I would fix the tint to 50. Just do not want to give them an excuse to stop me. If you never, never, never have a beer or too much of your yard grass in the car I guess it is OK then. And I would use the newer 3M tint that at 50 or 70 does a better job of keeping the heat and burning feeling of the sun out. Take the qtr. window to maybe 35 and it would not show such a drastic change. I still use limo on the back to kill the headlight glare. Pain to back up unless you have the rear camera. It amazes me when people break the law, get cited for it, then try to blame "a quota" as the reason why they got the ticket.

Well some laws are silly like tint laws, not to mention different in every state which makes it even more complicated. Like I said as long as you can see inside the vehicle I think that should be legal everywhere. If I'm being pulled over officer just want to be safe and make sure I don't have a gun pointed at them, with 20% that is possible. I personally never ever do darker than that.

Im in Ohio too - usually just depends on the cop
Was ticketed once for just a license plate cover - thrown out in court once for window tint - took it off and went to court with proof and they didnt care, it was $125 fine been pulled over other times for just tint or no front plate and got off with warning - Ohio sucks for front plate. tint law i used to do 20% all around and that was when I was getting pulled over so I redid 35% on the front 2 windows and havent had a problem since. I kept 20% on my camaro though because I dont drive it much and when I do its usually nice and the windows are down. |

This is the thing, his intent was to pull me over with full intention of nailing me with my tint.....But, from what I have heard from other people is that cops can't just pull you over for illegal tint.....This may be debatable, because they are the police and they can pull you over for whatever they want, if it looks suspicious......
This is how it all went down: Cop pulls me over and tells me that I can't see your license plate clearly BECAUSE of my tinted license plate covers that I BOUGHT at autozone....... I thought these were legal BECAUSE I bought them at autozone... He than proceeds to ask me to roll down my window half way.....He takes out his tint gizmo thing and it read 16%.... He than gave me a warning for the tinted rear license plate cover and gave me a ticket for the 16% tint.. = $178 bucks.............. I'm taking off the stupid tinted license plate covers wiping out the intent to pull me over again....AND will replace the tint.......

So basically no license plate cover and you wouldn't of got pulled over, I mean no guarantee but that's basically what you're saying. Even more reason to keep tint you already have in my opinion.
