I need input

I'm starting to hear a clinking/rattling noise in the rear of the car when I'm coasting between 40 - 50 mph. I will barely hit the gas around these speeds and it will do this too. Once I get upwards of 60 mph it goes away and anything below 30 mph it doesn't do this. I took the car to the shop this past weekend and they think it's because the back wheels are "tire heavy" (as they put it). I put new tires on not too long ago. They did a wheel alignment and checked underneath the car and everything looks fine.

I've never had cars before that were "tire heavy" and I'm hoping they didn't overlook anything. I've tried looking at the car myself and I can't find anything. Has anyone else had this problem?

What size are your rear wheels and tires?
Is your Camaro lowered?
Are your wheels aftermarket with a secondary TMPS stem style sensor?

They are same the same size wheels/tires as the originals. I haven't lowered it and they have the sensors.

One thing I asked is how they would be tire heavy and the guy told me that some tires just do that. He said he had a set that used to do that too.

Seems to me a good balance job would take care of any "heavy tire" situations.

@JusticPete - can you correct me if I'm wrong, and throw some knowledge down while you are at it?

The only time a tire clicks is when it has a foreign metal object in it

It isn't a vibration, it is a click?

Probably a long shot but I just had an issue like this and I never would have guessed the solution. Turns out that the cross member behind the auto resonator was rubbing on the resonator at different rpms and It sounded like a metallic grinding coming from the rear/center of the car. The chevy dealership I went to just bent the brace a little bit until I can take it to get repaired. Just a simple thing to check off when trying to find the sound.

Thanks for the input, I'll take it back to the shop when I get a chance to see if that might be the cause. I'll also have them do a balance while I'm there.

There is some vibration but mostly rattling/clicking.

Let's start some basic trouble shooting. Pull the wheels and clean the hub surface and the back of the wheel where it sits against the hub. Torque the lugs to 100 pounds and take a test drive. Is there still a clicking noise?

+1 Most people never check their lugs. Or after they take a tire off never check to re-torque it to specs.

Are the sensors working? Try changing the pressure. Check if your get the same reading on your dash as the pressure at your tire gauge

The sensors are working normally. I changed the pressure and the readings were the same.
