First Full Detail!
So it's been around 7 months since I got my Camaro. The original rejex has about worn off and I just reapplied it - but I'm seeing swirls everywhere on the paint.
I'd like to reapply rejex after polishing the entire car but need some help with the process. I have rejex and 502. I have good clay bar but have no idea how to use it. Few questions: 1: What's the best way to clay bar? 2: What's the best way to remove swirls 3: If 502 polish, how will I not damage the clear coat? I want it to last a few years at least. 4: Are swirls bad? 5: How do I get deep into my rims to clean them before apply Hyrdo2? 6: What do I buy to use the polish if I use it? I'd prefer to get a cordless one. 7: Any other tips? How can I do the best job with my car to get it as good as possible. 8: Anything else I should do to avoid sun damage from the hot FL sun? Should I wait till 12 months before I do a full detail? Thank you guys!

Read everything in my signature. It's every question I've ever been asked for a detail while keeping it simple and not overthinking it.
Also I just did a one year detail on mine with pictures here: http://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=475005 |

1. How to use a clay bar.
First determine if the car needs to be clayed by performing the baggie test. If needed, clay areas until contaminates are removed. 2. The best way to remove swirls is by machine polishing. 3. I think you meant 205 polish. 205 is a finishing polish and removes very little clear coat. This polish is generally used with a light cutting pad for removal of very fine defects. This is for maximizing the gloss of your clear coat. What you need to fix the paint is a compound, these are for removing swirls, water spots, light etchings, etc. Most of this is explained in Larry's polishing video I included for question #2. 4. Swirls are common in most every car you see. What causes them is improper washing/drying of your car. Here's a great video on how to keep your Camaro swirl free after polishing. 5. A wheel woolie, or the Adams turbo stick. If you have a cordless drill use the turbo stick, if not get a wheel woolie. 6. I'd recommend a Griots Garage 6" for a starter polisher. If your budget can handle it, the Rupes is fantastic and worth the extra cost. 7. After you get a good sealant/wax on the paint, use a pooling rinse to remove 80-90% of the water after washing your car. Will save you a ton of time. 8. Sealants have melting points around 300* F, where waxes melt around 180*, so be sure to use a sealant. I would detail your car after the new paint is fully cured, 90 days.
