In NYS you have no choice but keep your windows free of tint, because it's part of NYS safety inspection. Our good old governor made it illegal to have tint (30%) or more. Funny how laws are passed and with no vote from "We the People". He claims that other drivers or pedestrians can't see your eyes for them to cross roads or drivers at intersections?? I guess he should make sunglasses illegal too. IMO, it's a stupid law. 30% tint is like not having any tint.

Here in the "Garden State" absolutely everything is illegal. You can have tint...as long as windshield, driver, and passenger windows don't have any. Just imagine how corny that looks. A few years back my wife decided she wanted tint on her Camry. Dark too. All around except the windshield. I warned her not to do it. About four months later while I was driving her Camry with her in the passengers seat, I noticed a cop car parked on the side of the road just ahead at a bend. I repeatedly told her to hurry up and roll her window down as I did mine. She refused. I could see the cop gawking at us as we drove by. Gave cop enough reason to stop us. Yeah, we got ticketed thanks to her.
