Glen, have you considered putting a patch of protection film there? My guy did it without me asking for it at no extra cost, in his experience that spot (and the door handle area) is most prone to scratches from normal use.

Pretty much just as it says above. Get a spray bottle ,mix it up 25% rubbing alcohol 75% water, spray the polish after it hazes off, and wipe it off with a microfiber. To detailers, this is known as IPA. IPA is the absolute best way to prep a paint service for any sealant or coating.

what if you have stripes? can you polish ,let haze then spray and wipe off? or just don't polish the stripe? only polish the paint...?

In general, never polish soft stuff like stripes or paint film.....

Here a good pic I took this weekend that shows what polish does, it smooths the reflection so it looks glass like, as in the sides on my car:
