I would heed Scrappy Doo's advice and think more about what you want the car to do rather than the number that it makes. If you want to, for instance, run 11's, you don't need anywhere near 500rwhp to do such a thing. If you'd rather be into the single digits, then you'll need forced induction or big cubes. If you just want the number to brag about, then spend the money to be pissed when someone with 350rwhp smokes you because they have a combo that works
Heed Demonspeeds advice on this. Peak HP numbers are not going to make a fun car to drive. Chasing that peak number might get you an engine that is a pooch anywhere under 5000 RPM's. On the street and possibly even the track you will lose more often than not to lower peak HP numbered cars.

What you should be trying to do is pick the RPM range you want to realistically drive the car within and then work with an experienced speed shop to pick a combo that will Maximize the total power under your entire curve. Not just peak numbers.

If you are dead set on 500 RWHP from what I've seen in the past it will take:
Full Heads/Cam/Intake/Throttle Body/Roller Rockers/Exhaust/Under Drive Pulley Set/Fuel System Upgrade/Probably an Electric water pump/Probably AC Delete and possibly even a lighter weight flywheel.
If you are an Automatic I don't think you'll ever see 500 RWHP from a stock bottom end 346ci LS1.

Good luck with your project! It won't be cheap but they are always fun!

I have a guy you can call in Columbia SC. It was a two hour drive for me from Anderson but he specializes in ls motors. PM me for more info. He did my truck and all my friends ls1s and it was worth the travel.

If you want a reputable shop here in sc contact Bruce Hawkins, he owns hawks third generation in Easley SC. that's the only place I let touch my car and performance is their specialty. Almost everyone who works there has an fbody with 600+rwhp and I know a few people personally that have 400 and 500+ streetable cars thanks to them. Check out their website at hawksthirdgenparts.com to see some projects and read a little more about them. All their contact information is there as well.

You can get there with a supercharger.

The only way to get a NA 5.7L to 500rwhp would be to bump the compression way up (13+) and run only race fuel.

The only NA LS motors that are making 500+ are strokers....383s or 40Xs.....but thats not a 5.7.

But I have seen stock LS5.7Ls do 800+ with a SC @18lbs.....heads usually lift about then though.......

My own 5.7L vette made 497 with a really mild cam and a set of trick flows. Give us a call if you need some help but that goal isn't too hard to reach. I normally talk people into milder setups that are more fun to drive on the street but if your looking for a specific goal we can help.

A blower isn't a bad way to go either. We had a fellow come in with a pristine 99 TA convertible. He was a older fellow but had a goal of 500rwhp. I knew he wouldn't want to deal with a bunch of bad driveablity so we hooked him up with a procharger. The car made 520 rwhp thru a automatic. All in all it picked up 230 rwhp with the little package we did. I see him all over town with the car, he loves it!
