Question Why hasn’t Apple come out with a gaming console?

If they did would you get it? They pretty much conquered everything else!

Sony = PS3
Microsoft = XBOX
Apple = ?

They did in 1996 it was called the "Pippin" and it bombed hard. Honestly based on apples current product line I'd bet they don't believe console gaming would be a market worth entering. It would be a step back for them.

Apple has a gaming platform. It's called the i(insert word here).

you can play angry birds and words with friends...

In all seriousness, they'd have to follow they business model.

The system would be about 3000 dollars, using state of the art technology.

It'll only be good for one type of game (either fighting, fps, rpg, sports, or racing).

You'll only be able to buy Apple games and use Apple adapters. There will be no third party accessories/games. Buying anything will only be through the apple store or via igames, a new utility software they release.

If you call tech support because of a crash or bug with your console, you'll talk to a self-called genius who will condescend you and let you know that you're below their intellect and they'll spend 30 minutes telling you how great they are and another 45 minutes preaching about the greatness that is Apple.

I could go on, but I think that's enough of a joke for now. =)

They're racking in $$$ with what they have. Why waste money developing a special platform.

yeah, Apple's main game market is limited to iPhone/iPad... doesn't really translate into a gaming console that well, unless you wanna count the Xbox live arcade style stuff...

I had no idea they've already been down that road. Interesting that it was also supposed to serve as a network computer.

APPLE PIPPIN
Every year, you hear whisperings about Apple entering the videogame market in one form or another. Yet very few people seem to remember that Apple did just that with the Pippin in 1996 -- and failed miserably. As a multimedia platform marketed by Apple and toy-maker Bandai, the Pippin was an attempt to create an inexpensive machine that could play games and serve as a network computer. The device tanked for myriad reasons: lack of software, misbranding and the fact that the market was already dominated by systems like the Nintendo 64, Sega and the Sony PlayStation.

Yep, but nobody saw it as that, they saw it as a $600 game console with almost no games at a time when you could get one for $300 or less that had tons of games. 3DO had the same issue but managed to last a lot longer because they did manage to get some games published.
