I have both, and the major difference is after many, many washings, the TRC towels are still soft. Other towels like Cobras and Chemical Guys eventually lose their softness.

The other big difference is if you drop a TRC towel in grass and leaves, for instance, the debris will come out in the washer. Other lesser quality towels are impossible to get that debris out.

TRC has towels in all sizes and thicknesses, from Korea and China, that I have and do use daily.

There are a couple of other high quality microfiber companies that someone will recommend on here. TRC has always felt like the best to me.

Assuming all of my towels are Chemical Guys (or worse), what would be some essentials to buy here? All the different towels are overwhelming.

IMO, you need at least 2-3 drying towels, 8 towels for rinseless wash, 4 towels for detail spray wiping (can use the rinseless towels), 4 wheel towels, 4 interior towels and 4 glass towels.

The Eagle Edgeless are great for rinseless and detailing.

Waffle weave drying towels.

Waffle weave glass towels.

Any multipurpose towels for wheels and interior. Use the cheap towels you already have.

I like to color code my towels:
Black- wheels
Pink/Purple- paint
Yellow- Interiors
White- rinseless wash
Blue- glass
