It has to do with new guys getting the shaft, but there are a lot of factors influencing the crappy start of new young workers. Without getting too deep into it, both GM AND the senior union members are to blame. So I have been told by ffriends who work there.

Um no. This is just false. The workers are not to "blame" for wanting reasonable wages and benefits. I want to be paid for the work I do and time I invest in my profession and live comfortably, not paycheck to paycheck. They have that right to. Why do you hold the workers to blame rather than the company who is trying to short them their due on top of continually try to outsource their work to places that don't pay a living wage, all while increasing the benefits and payouts at the top of the chain. This is highly toxic thinking.

Someone should not have to suffer pay reductions or worse health care because someone needs a part for their car or a repair done. Ride a bus, call a coworker or family member for a ride, ride a bike, walk. There are options.

This is not a worker issue, this is a greedy company issue.

Sorry to disagree with your thought processs. Paycheck to paycheck? Like anyone in any job, live within your means. There are a lot of people working and making much less than GM employees and are able to live on their income. Outsourcing GM and autoworkers are not the only people affected by outsourcing. Think IT jobs over the last 10 yrs.. Did you support those folks when their jobs were outsourced? Doubt it since they don't get the press that autoworkers do. Someone should not have to suffer pay reductions.. Ride a bus, call a coworker or family member for a ride, ride a bike, walk. Your right on taking a loss but as for the rest of that comment. Are you frigging nuts? Who in their wildest dreams think it should be the people buying GM vehicles that should have to find alternatives to their vehicles? I just spent over 70k on a new Chevy PU and need parts under warranty. And you think it's my responsibility to just let it sit while GM and autoworkers attempt to work out their differences. If I'm forced to find an alternative, it will be with a new NON Union vehicle.

If they are making more than $15 per hour to tighten nuts, bolts and screws, they are overpaid.

Yeah, but you would never be doing repetitives tasks as they do. I bet you'd not last a week.

Start you own car company and have your products being build in countries that hire children and poor people. Pay them a dollar a day.

And, by reading the requirements for the job that you mention, you fit perfectly.

my wife had a similar problem at the airline. they gave concessions to keep the company afloat and when they started making record profits the employees didn't get back what they gave up. once you give up something $$$$ you will not get it back.it happened to the teamsters also.it sucks but that's the way it works.
so i guess the new vette won't be at dealers for a hot minute.

UAW targeted GM so once the strike ends, Ford and FCA will be forced to cave to whatever GM was forced to cave to. That being said the strike is already affecting suppliers.

Wages, increased profit sharing, temp workers to full time, allocation of future products to plants, and (this is a new one I heard today) absolutely zero imported products, including from Canada.

If that last part is true, they lost me there. As much as I would love that, it just isn’t realistic in this global economy.

100% agree with you. Even if Trump backs them up on that, this is just impossible. GM cars will end up.beingntoo expensive compared to the competition.
