Does 6MT Drain Plug Need Sealant?
I've scoured the forum and I've found 3 answers:
1. Yes, use GM part number 12346004 2. Yes, use threadlock blue 3. Yes, use threadlock red 4. No, it has teflon coating and can go back on after a simple clean So at best one of these is right, please help!! Thanks, Will |

I didn’t put anything on mine when I changed my fluid. It doesn’t leak.

Its a pipe plug no need for any sealant especially red loctite.

blue loctite will work if you want no chance of a leak. Transmission fluid is much less viscous than engine oil and it can work itself out between threads if the temp is high enough. Doubt it would ever be an issue but you never know, so I used blue loctite.

+1 on the blue loctite. Perhaps it didn't help, but it hasn't hurt either.
I'm sure GM part number 12346004 is the definitive answer- but who's got some of that laying around the garage? |

the same drain plug design has been employed for decades in trans and differentials both. no sealant needed.

As far as needing to put sealant on the transmission plug threads, probably not since it is a pipe thread, but, I have always put a little sealer on these types of plugs. Old dog...new trick thing I suppose...
