New Pads Question - Turn Rotors?

When you are installing new track pads of the same compound are your turning the rotors if the rotors are not groved? Still measuring about 33mm thickness.

Thanks

Last I read when you can do pad changes that as long as the rotor is not showing excessive pad deposits from the previous pads you just need to burnish in the new pads per the pad manufactures instructions.

As long as the rotors seem to be true (no pulsation when braking) and they appear good physically; you should be good. It was previously an industry standard to turn rotors whenever pads were replaced; this was endorsed by manufacturers of the machining equipment and the replacement rotors.

Thanks for the advice. I am going to just replace and bed the pads.

Sometimes I hit the rotors with a little 200-400 grit sand paper.

+1 lol! Frankly, even with different pad deposit proper bedding in accomplishes the change over just fine.

Nope. Even with a groove/lip around the edge my rotors have been holding up fine with multiple sets of stock brake pads.

Also I believe garnett paper is supposed to be used rather than sandpaper if changing pad compounds but you will probably be fine swapping pad compounds without touching the rotors.

I've tracked my C5 Z06 for over 12 years and hundreds of pad changes without ever once turning a rotor. Only one season so far with the SS 1LE, but went through 4 sets of pads and 3 different compounds on the stock rotors without doing a thing.

For the record, I've also never turned rotors on my street-driven cars either and never once had a shop recommend it either for that matter.

Swap pads, complete a proper bedding procedure, carry on.
