iPhone 11 w/IOS 13.1 music not through speakers
I have the 13.1 update. I can pair my phone and carplay appears on the phone in the Bluetooth section but the music and audio book sound comes out of the phone, not the car speakers. When I make a phone call the sound comes out of the car speakers. Everything worked with my iPhone 8 and old IOS. My Acura without carplay has no issues. I have a 2016 SS.

This site helped me figure out that one of my USB options was not selected. Perhaps it can help you. I still sometimes get sound from the phone before it switches to CarPlay, but my iPhone 7 also sometimes did that.

Mine does this sometimes too, it's sporadic.
When it does happen, usually unplugging the phone from the cord and plugging it back in fixes it. Sometimes it requires the car to be turned off and the doors opened to turn off the nav and have it reset when you start the car back up again. For me, it happens about one time out of 20ish. Annoying, but livable.

Try going into settings and battery and turn off battery optimization... this fixed the problem with this and CarPlay for me.
