How much timing are you running?

I think I am going to try the griptec pulley. They say they net +1 more psi per pulley size over the stock units.

I can confirm. I just switched from the standard 3.625" to a ZPE Griptec 3.500" and went from just over 7 psi to just over 9 psi. Great stuff!

The 3.5" whipple pulley I was seeing just under 9psi, when I moved to the 3.375" whipple pulley it jump to 11psi, usually on one shift during a 1/4 mile pass I would see up to 11.4psi but seems to be peaking just over 11psi most of the time. The move to 3.25" whipple pulley peaks at about 11.8psi over the 1/4 mile pass, it builds boost faster than the 3.375" pulley, the 3.25" holds in the high 10s psi and low 11s psi over the majority of the pass, where the 3.375" pulley drops to the high 9s psi on some shifts then builds back to 11psi.

Timing wise on the current 3.25" track tune I was running 17 degrees. On my track tunes i zero out the flex fuel timing table in the WOT area and control it all in the high octane table. That way if I need to add to removing timing at the track I only need to adjust the one table.

I would think with E and Meth you should be able to run more timing then that. Are you getting knock running more timing?

First day at the track with the 3.25" pulley, decided to start out conservative. First pass of the day the log did not record properly so no data and I decided to leave it at 17 for the second pass. Second pass I saw a couple blips of false knock but again decided to leave it at 17. Third pass I saw a spike in knock retard in the back half of the pass that temporarily pulled a decent amount of timing. My original plan was to bump it up to 18 if I made a pass with no knock retard.

I have run up to 20 with 3.375" pulley but at this level I was seeing some knock retard, can't say I saw much benefit from being at 20 vs 18 as my previous fastest pass back in June I was at 18 with the 3.375" pulley.

Local track is still closed. Decided to do a video on changing shift points in HP Tuners.

Great video Rob. Keep up the good work.

Any big changes to your setup for 2020?

Hey Josh. I was working on some other projects over the winter.

I was planning on a few things for this spring to get into the 9s. Dropping some weight for track days (removing the muffler and running a lightweight battery at the track). I was also looking at increasing the e85 content so I could run a little more timing. The track is closed due to COVID-19. I am hoping it opens before the DA is too high for any decent times. Otherwise I will have wait for the fall.

How about you? Any upgrades in the works?

Uh...I guess you can say that.

I’m adding:
Mast Motorsports Black Label LT1 heads
CamMotion custom cam, 229/245 on a 120+4
2” coated Dynatech headers with 3” power cats
8.000” lower pulley
DW400 in tank pump
103 Katech TB
GPI forged pistons and rods. 10.2 compression
GForce Outlaw axles

My best last year with pretty much a Whipple and LT4 fueling was 10.8@130. I’m hoping for a little improvement...

Dang you got a lot going on there. I have been debating the pistons and cam for a year or so.. I am still stuck on seeing the 9s with it being stock from the heads down. I am pretty much maxed on what I am willing to throw at the stock pistons, so I either need to cut a little weight or get to a low da track.

Decide to post the process I am using for changing the WOT tune as I am adding boost.
