OEM BREMBO PADS vs HAWK HPS 5.0
First post here!
I have a 2017 Camaro 1SS with around 27k miles. I need to change my brake pads ASAP. I was looking at either the stock pads, or the Hawk HPS 5.0. I love how the stock brakes feel, but I am also open to trying new pads. I drive my car maybe 4K miles a year, and autox it around 5 times a year. What are your experiences if you have used the hawk pads before? And should I just buy the OEM pads instead? I don’t really care for brake dust but if I don’t lose performance and I also don’t have as much brake dust, then I’m sold. Also, when I change the pads, what else should I do during the change process? |

If you haven't already bled the brakes with DOT4 you should. It made a noticeable difference in my car.

Thank you! I was reading more on what I should do during a brake pad change and this came up. I got to take it to a local shop to me and do that. When you did the bleed, did the car feel like it had more bite?

Definitely more bite/firmer pedal, more controllable at the limit. I don't have many miles on my car either, so it really surprised me how big a difference it made.
I don't do autox, but I'm sure it would benefit you there even more. Don't let a shop over price you, like swapping to DOT4 is a big deal. It is completely compatible with DOT3. Just flush out the old as you pour in the new. |

If you want to go to hawk id stick to the DTC series. im on dtc 60 for the first time, much better then oem or power stop track days. I have no exp with 5.0 but id expect them to be under whelming

OEM are likely Ferodo DS Performance. I'd choose from OEM, Ferodo DS Performance or Ferodo DS2500, whatever's cheaper.

5.0's are JUNK. Stock Brembo are better pads than those. DTC70 on the front and DTC60 on the rear would be what you should run on the track. A beginner or intermediate driver would be fine with running stock BREMBOS on the track. An advanced or very aggressive driver needs the better intiial bite that the DTC pads provide along with the NO BRAKE FAD properties of the DTC pads. I would also suggest hi temp brake fluid and stainless steel brake lines. I also have GIRODISC rotors and while I am not thoroughly convinced they actually help stop any better but they DEFINITELY run cooler according to my trusty heat gun. Thye get up to about 425-450 degrees at the caliper and my stock front ZL1 rotors would get close to 500. There really is no such thing as a very high performance brake pad that DOESNT result in some brake dust.

Hi guys! Thanks for the input. I ended up going with the stock brembo pads. I wanted to give the Hawk pads a try but I didn’t want to end up losing braking performance and feel and according to all of the reviews I read and the input from some of you, i had a hunch i was gonna lose some performance. The brand new brembo pads felt amazing and stopped on a dime!
