How to place an order with GM

I've recently placed an order with my dealer for a 23 radiant red ZLE. While I'm happy with my dealer I'm not exactly sure how the process goes regarding how they submit an order or the frequency at which that occurs. Do they only submit orders on a monthly basis?

I'm just curious for those who have inside knowledge out there to share with me how the buying process is now post pandemic.

I bought my 18ss new but obviously that was before everything changed.

Shouldn't be any different and reaching out to GM won't really help at all. Just make sure your dealer keeps you informed. I ordered a new 2022 Silverado refreshed in January, picked it up on April 7th. Dealer kept up with the order for me and all went well.

The dealer I use places orders by a certain time on Saturday and they get notified on Tuesday. If they don't have the allocation, they wait until a Saturday in which they do.

The old trick of entering a sold order doesn't speed up allocations under these conditions.

Does/did your dealer have an allocation?

The dealer I ordered my '21 ZL1 from (ordered in Dec. '20, delivered mid-March '21) puts in orders with GM every Tuesday. Why not ask your dealer to explain how they do it?

This ^^ Don't trust a lying salesman. Talk to someone in actual authority at the dealership. See if they have an allocation, whether that allocation can be given to you, will they shaft you later or will they agree to the final price right now, when will they order it, can you be kept in the loop, etc.

Trust no one.

Thanks. That's helpful.

It's been a month since we placed the order. From what I've seen on here and fb it could be anywhere between 2-7 months before they lock in my allocation.

I did ask my dealer and he explained it well after this post. However I've learned a bit more since then from tidbits on here that go back to the Becky days.

Thanks guys.

If your dealer doesn't get an allocation for a ZLE then they cant fulfill your order..

Does your dealer have an allocation?

This is from an email he sent me:
"Patience is the key to ordering vehicles in this climate. We've already submitted your order for consideration. The official word on the timing of when your order will be picked up is, we don't know. Initial prediction is sometime in the spring assuming we get an allocation to build a ZL1, and they don't constrain any of the features you want. You are the first to submit your build, so you'll be the first one to be built, we just don't have any idea when that may be. Chad checks the order status of vehicles in the queue on a daily basis, and let's us know when changes occur.

We submit orders as they come in, some are picked up quickly (Equinox, Silverado, XT5 etc.), some are drawn out (ZL1, Corvette, Escalade, etc.). Unprecedented times."

Classic GM post-Covid. They are willing to lose half of their customers if they can get the other half to cover the costs

I always custom order my cars, BUT, your above post is exactly why I chose not to place an order and picked up my ZLE in transit.

I literally every night do a search on GMs website and through cars.com. I've found radiant red manuals, convertibles, regular ZL1'S. No auto ZLE in RR except two that are in transit, both in NY 500+ miles from me. Not sure if they're spoken for but I have emailed both dealorships. Outside of daily searches and weekly communication with my dealer, I don't know what else to do.

If I don't hear anything in 2 months time. I'll try another dealer in Ohio.

Ive seen two "in transit".
Are these typically build requested allocated orders with potential owners or are these unallocated with intent of selling off the show room floor?

What sort of search method did you utilize in obtaining your "in transit" Camaro? I've only been using the search inventory feature on GMs site specifically tailored with filters to ZLEs within a 2000 mile radius.

Thanks!
