The rears I just put on my 23 ZL1 had no tape, used the existing 3 screw holes in the wheel well liner with the supplied hardware. I didn't use these on the 23 or the 18 1LE that I did have, the ZL1 Addon's on the front are too short to do any any good so I used the $15 universal, it's the only thing that works but you'll trade off a little bit of aesthetics for a product that actually works.

The clips and tape are just for the fronts (which is where the issue arises as they scratch a metal fender rather than plastic parts). I took off the fender liners, scraped away and treated the rust with por15 then refitted the rock guards using different clips which are smooth on the side which contacts the fender. You can see the difference in the picture between the toothed ones from zl1 that caused the damage and corrosion and the others I bought

I've had the ZL1 Addons rock guards on my car for 3 years. Zero issues with the install and they've been rock solid the whole time. guest survey surveyzop.com

+1, I had zl1 addons one for 5 yrs, even taken off once before and no damage whatsoever /shrug Also, for the tape, color the side of it with a black sharpie before you install and you'll never see the tape again.

Yea, I kinda thought the paint “may” get scraped up with those clips. I also thought a piece of PPF on the underside of the fender may prevent a potential rust issue. For a lot of people, their cars don’t see moisture unless its getting washed. Or, they move on to another car. So probably not a big deal for most.

Those metal clips is why I chose not to go with their version, and went with Rokblokz.

Haven't installed mine yet, but I purchased the deluxe ZL1 guards. Where did you source that replacement clip?

No issue with mine, I just wish that I put them on at the dealership as I got a chip on the door on the 3 hour drive home.

That came up with an EU or UK page that would not ship to the US, but I think this is the comparable US link for those U clips:

I'm kind of between a rock and a hard place in regards to installing rock guards.

The ZL1 addons rock guards use the barbed clip to help fasten the guards to the fenders. That undoubtedly will dig into the paint and cause rust. The rear attaches using the three existing screws so that's no problem. I've seen some suggesting a different barbless clips, but I'm still not sold.

Others like the ACS Rock Guards look like they fit great. The rears require no modifications, but the front require drilling holes in the inner fenders.

Are there any brands out there that require no modifications and NO drilling? I guess having to choose between drilling into the inner fenders or getting paint chips, the minor holes in the inner fenders is a small price to pay, but I would still prefer NO drilling.

Has anyone tried installing the ACS Rock guards with the one existing screw but using double edged tape instead of the screws that require drilling?

Rokblokz fronts require no drilling and are completely reversible.

Yup, there is only plastic-to-paint contact with the Rokblokz front guards, and they reuse factory clip locations front and rear.
