Treating leather seats?

Do any of you treat your leather seats?

If so, what do you use and how often?

Are you looking more for protection, or restoring and cleaning? I have had a few leather cleaners I havnt used on my Camaro yet but im kinda interested in what to use on my red leather interior to protect it.

Keep in mind you’re never really treating your leather. There is a plastic finish applied to the leather that keeps it sealed. Just use any type of multi surface protectant, don’t get caught in the hype of expensive conditioners and cleaners… A good multi surface is aerospace 303 or poorboys natural look.

I used to condition my leather seats in my 2013 Camaro Vert yearly. Did the same for my 1996 Park Ave years ago. A closed car in the summer with UV rays is a leather hardener.

I didn't use any in particular, just let it soak in overnight & next morning buff/wipe off excess.

I use Adam's leather conditioner on all our cars, it works very well, leaves a supple, wet surface behind and lasts a few months.

I wouldn't touch them with anything except a cloth damp with some clean water, maybe a tiny bit of mild soap and then wipe off. Just keep them clean. The most important thing you can do to prolong the life of your leather seats is not let UV rays hit them. That means keeping your windows up and the car out of direct sun.

I feel that most products you can buy are a waste of money and all they do is just coat the thin vinyl coating on top of the leather, and sometimes make it look unnaturally shiny. A lot of them also have a heavy chemical scent. There really is no need. Automotive leather is treated very heavily to make it liquid resistant and UV resistant. It's never going to be "saddle" leather and does not need to be treated as such. A real leather protectant usually consists of various types of oil mixed with a bit of wax such as bees wax. But putting such a product on automotive leather would be pointless, it would not penetrate the outer coating. Now if you had a car with semi-anilene leather such as an up-level cadillac, then yes, that is a whole different ball game.

You'll get different opinions, and there are a number of companies out there that will sell you a $20 or $30 bottle of something.

I'm a minimalist. I wash my car with a bucket of water, a bucket of water with a good clear fragrance free dish soap, and a handful of white cotton terrycloth towels

Repeat use of dish soap is not recommended, harsh on paint finish.

dish soap will strip any wax protection from your paint.id wax it and start using even a cheap brand of car wash.on frequently waxed cars ive used dish soap and washed them twice before beginning paint or bodywork to help avoid fisheyes in the new paint.

I don't treat the seats, I only keep them clean.

My process is first to vacuum, then wipe down with a damp cloth if necessary.

Food, any beverages with dairy or sugar content, and pets are not allowed in my Camaro.

anyone using leather care products your wasting your time and money. the leather used in all GM verticals is coated. 5th gens were too. GM says a damp a cloth with water is all that is needed. nothings going to get into the leather unless its cracked. The only cars that can use leather conditioner are aftermarket real leather seat covers and high priced cars like Ferrari and Lamborghini
