CAI ????

Cold air induction, whether it be Rotofab
Or whatever, on a stock ZL1 with just catback
Or axleback, no tune, ( still under warranty)
Does it make any difference on a dyno, other
Then a louder supercharger “Whine”???

Thx , but that dyno link, looks like a comparison of
Two CAI systems? Am I reading that correctly?

You gain little from going to a CAI from the OEM airbox. Maybe 5rwhp which is nothing in a 3900lb car.

You get to hear the supercharger whine more like you said.

All the gains you see from those that make aftermarket CAI's either tune the car or keeps the hood up. Keeping the hood up actually makes the aftermarket CAI gain a lot of power. Like 10 or 20 rwhp but you have to remember, we drive vehicles with the hood closed. So then that number goes back down to 5rwhp.

The OEM airbox is good to like 700 or 800 rwhp. This was talked about before recently I believe and many times before.

Many vehicles stock air boxes will support much higher Horse power. But adding a good aftermarket air box with a bigger filter will most always get some extra power.

Nope. Bling and sound. Added exactly zero on the dyno in my case. The stock air box is pretty efficient and an engine will only effectively use the amount of air that it’s tune will account for. A CAI is a building block mod, on its own not much gain, as you add mods that require additional airflow the CAI will add to performance.

Yes you can. Dyno's are done with the hood open to get the air flowing so temps don't get high but do not simulate real world driving conditions. Plus with the hood up you get better numbers with the CAI. It's been proven but gets a quick thread from Camaro 5 on this.

https://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=116001

Like the link says, you can do good closed dyno's but you need a big fan in front of the car blowing enough air to keep temps down and simulate airflow a car would feel whole driving.

I have seen this quoted many times over the years. Have you ever seen back to back dyno runs with the hood open vs closed? I don't believe I have. I would be interested to see that. I think that would be a good visual for people who are thinking about getting one with expectations of 20whp gains.

But not every place people go for dyno runs leave the hood closed because they just don't want to get a bigger fan. It's really not that hard to setup. But even places with the correct size fan will push back on doing it with the hood closed because "everyone else does it with the hood open" excuse.

I mean you can just search the internet and go down the rabbit hole with all the hood open vs closed debate that's been on the internet for decades.

All the end customer looks at is what the company they are buying said product from says the customer will gain from their product.

Anyone should know a CAI won’t produce substantial gains on a stock engine which I didn’t buy one expecting a 20 hp gain over the stock unit. I bought one because it looks better and does seem to me anyway to gain a little better throttle response and more supercharger whine at full throttle.

Wow, hood open, hood closed, during dyno, ok
I get it, now ,CAI on a basically stock motor=
Waste of money (except for the bling& whine)
Wife whines enough, don’t need extra whine!
Although a nice merlot is acceptable, I digress,
How about a better dry panel filter that flows
More air, any advice on that? Thx
