Performance Question

I am wanting to add the Roto Fab CAI but not sure which one to go with. Any advice welcome. Also have thought about changing the top or bottom pulley. Can someone direct me on which way is best? Thanks.

Regular Rotofab if you are keeping stock throttle body. Bigger throttle body (103) needs a tune and fits the Big Gulp CAI (and require tune).

Leave the pulleys stock unless you are also doing cooling mods (expansion tank, heat exchanger, ethanol, etc).

You get more performance from a tune than a CAI with or without a tune.

A CAI is going to net you more supercharger whine with little hp/tq gain. The stock airbox is very efficient well over 700rwhp.

Do you have any other plans or goals for the car?
Best to layout a plan and goal so you dont have to replace too many parts later on as you start doing more mods.

As for you main question... CW3SF hit the nail on the head.

If you're just cruisin around the Odessa area, but not doing any road course or drag strip racing or at least very little, then buy a RotoFab and put a 5 or 10% lower pulley on it. Probably wouldn't even need a tune. First confirm the diameter of your lower pulley. I believe it is 8" but you should check it.

Are there ways to modify the stock air box just to enhance that sexy blower whine? That's the main reason I want to do an intake (not for power at stock levels). Can you get more sound without spending the hundreds for the intake setup?

Yes, I believe there is a thread someplace around here where they cut the bottom and put a green filter in and said it helped.

Also, some have removed the damper plate from the supercharger lid.

Side note the 103 doesn't really do anything unless you port the supercharger. Opening isn't big enough to utilize it.

Agree. My response was more directed to the point that I wouldn’t do a Big Gulp with an oem throttle body.

I disagree. Mine made 723 wheel with RotoFab and OEM SC/TB.

Yea, I've seen a couple youtube clips where they did that, but it didnt seem to make a very noticeable difference.

that makes no sense. so a CAI with a tune is worse than a car with just a tune?

i got a used rotofab for cheap and made 13hp and 7tq back to back and didnt just kill a thousand upon thousand dollar warranty!! worth it? sure, cheap and a little noise.
