Thumbs down No Gas for New York

I'm not sure who is running this place into the ground but. The So called Gov. Just signed a bill ending all fuels to end in 2035. Maybe the mid-west can have it all so we can run the roads over here..

Just to clarify - the law isn't banning the fuel itself, it's saying that new cars sold from 2035 onward must be zero emission vehicles. Sure that will eventually mean that no vehicles there will need gas, but they're not stopping gasoline sales in 2035 and stranding all the people with ICE vehicles.

From the article on GMAuthority where you got your info (based on the same comment and similar user name there):

"Governor Hochul signed legislation this week that will require all new passenger cars and trucks sold in New York State to be zero-emissions by 2035. In addition, the law will require all new off-road vehicles, like ATVs and side-by-sides, as well as other powered equipment, to be zero-emissions by 2035. New medium-duty and heavy-duty vehicles will also have to be battery-electric by 2045."

I live in CA where our idiot governor signed something similar last year. Im actually a fan of most electric cars, but even with some great electric cars, the market share(even in CA) is still in the low single digits for new car sales.
These mandates stink imo and forcing over to all electric by 2035 seems to me to be a fantasy.

I don't have the text of the law to reference, or a law degree to interpret it - but I would imagine they will refuse to register any ICE vehicle listed as MY 2035 or later.

And it's likely to be more than just NY state - 12 states are pushing for this to be a federal mandate for 2035 onward.

We have to face facts, the ICE is on its last legs and it's been in the cards for a long time. My main concern is that battery technology is not where it would be if "big oil money" hadn't been allowed to suppress research into alternate energy for decades. Things like solar, fuel cells, etc should be much further along than it is at this point, and 14 years isn't going to be enough time to catch up.

Does anyone actually read these things?
https://www.nysenate.gov/legislation/bills/2021/a4302

This "sets a goal." No penalties are mentioned. There is no clause stating "sales of such-and-such are hereby banned as of (insert date here)."

There's also this nice "out:"
IN IMPLEMENTING THE PROVISIONS OF THIS PARAGRAPH, THE DEPARTMENT SHALL ACT CONSISTENTLY WITH SAFETY, TECHNOLOGICAL FEASIBILITY AND COST-EFFECTIVENESS.

So, if gas is still cheap compared to alternate technologies...

I hadn't read the bill, will add it to my reading list for later - but obviously people aren't even reading the news articles correctly either.... Thus we end up with the telephone game scenario resulting in "OMG NO GAZ WTH"...

I read it. It is short (as these things go).

My summary:
1) Here's the goal.
2) All state agencies are hereby tasked with evaluating its feasibility.

Let me know if I missed something.

Add this to long list of reasons to GTFO of New York.

Electric vehicles and the marketing that has been used trick people into buying them is one of the biggest scams ever.
