Here is the "stand" I ended up going with after doing a lot of looking at the different options.

These are very "low-pro" yet sturdy and hold the plaque in a close to vertical position. They do not obstruct the plaque nor take away from it.
This or a hanger will be included with every plaque. The hanger is heavy duty cable epoxied to the slate and covered with caps.

Got to do a single view design, turned out pretty nice! These would be great for the smaller (6"x9") plaques.

One of the plastic caps popped off but was an easy fix with a little super glue.
