Sourcing Belts for 10 rib applications

So, as you may know by now 10 rib belts of every brand are a little hard to source. No issues with 8 ribs but I ordered a 10 rib for my new Griptech 95 mm upper and thought it might work, wrong too short and the next one up was 2 inches longer with nothing in between. So I was pulling my hair out (no hair to pull) and finally I called Dayco and found one of their techs who has run into this many times before. He recommended using a 12 rib of the correct length I needed and use a sharp razor knife to trim the last two ribs and Wala you have a 10 rib belt. Then I had a flashback from Viet Nam, not really but I remember talking to Jason Leiva about his 10 rib setup and he had the same issue and Vengeance did the same thing on his car since the 10 ribs were not the right lengths he needed. So I have belt coming tomorrow and find out if its the right one. Should be good to go after that, I ordered a new trailer today and should have it in about 3 weeks so I'll be ready to finish out the year with 3 races and a track rental. The 9s are calling my name, saying Laynlo go for it, go for it. You have all winter to fix it. Just shitting about fixing it.

Regarding the belt, that’s a great idea! Love the ingenuity!

Regarding that last part about the 9’s… I KNEW this day was going to happen! Old speed demons never settle down. Now go get ‘em!

I'm going to be honest, I had no idea we'd run this fast on the first pass or any pass. I was just hoping originally to run 10.50s or 60s. Well that didn't happen and the 10.34@135 was not in the best conditions. Pretty warm and DA over 2000, so that changed everything again and then last week on the dyno we put a smaller pulley on and made another 45 rwhp and 80 something lbs of torque and we haven't run that power at the track yet and that was just a tick over 10 lbs with the 677/632, now I have another pulley that will probably produce a little more boost and I'd expect it to make 700, I'll find out this week if I can get back on the dyno once I get the belt I need. I think 700 rwhp and maybe 650 on torque I think we can do it with some 60 degree temps and DA 500 or less it could happen if these Nitto 555r2s can take that much torque on the launch. Just not sure about that, we pulled a whole lot of timing to help it, if that works it might hook.

Yeah, adding more power is a no brainer but it always ends up being an issue at launch…. Reducing timing is that area is likely a tactic I’m going to try as well.

Some tuners might just close the throttle a bit, not sure how that works but there is a table for that.
On the belt issue, the one I ordered was not long enough again but I finally found that one I need. A buddy of mine (where I go to dyno) who builds cars, does a few prochargers, lots of turbo cars told me about a company in Iowa called 0ffroadbelts.com. They had several 10 rib belts that probably would have worked so I ordered a couple different ones. They actually have their own belts made so I'll give these a try and give some feedback on the quality of the belts. Need to get this car back on the dyno next week so we can get ready for next months racing.

Good to know on the belts. I’ve had good luck with Dayco though, I will say. But limited belt sizes for sure.

I’ve got King working some magic on my tune so hopefully find a couple of tenths for me.

My belts finally arrive, man it took a while to figure this shit out but offroadbelts.com gave me just what I needed. I doubt I'll go any smaller upper but if I do I have the correct belts to go there or back up. Good to go so put them on your lists of places to source belts if you need them.

This is good to know. Getting 10 rib belts can be a major PITA.

So, I have a couple more belts coming, I may end up running a little bigger pulley on the street and then swapping out to the 95mm Griptech for the track. I'm going to have either a 105 or maybe like a 102 mm Griptech made so I can run the same belt on both. The 95mm is very aggressive at the hit on the street so the bigger pulley will calm it down a little. The belt I received seems to be good quality and at 20 bucks a piece it's for sure well priced compared to the Gates which is between 70 and 110 for 10 rib and they don't have the sizes I need. The gal I talked to at Offroadbelts swears these are as good as the Gates. We'll find out at the track next month.

Funny we’re talking belts all of a sudden… I went to the dyno Monday with my new 8.00/2.85 griptec combo… and my belt is slipping. Didn’t notice any slipping when I ran 3.00 up top? Tensioner was smack in the middle of its range too. What do you think? Run an 8.4 or 8.8 lower and put the 3.00 on? Or maybe my tensioner is getting tired? I have no idea lol… not used to these issues on a 10 rib setup.

Larger upper and lower would likely fix the problem. Also try to get the absolute tightest belt you can fit on it.

Thanks Mike. I didn’t think my pulley combo was THAT radical, especially on a 10-rib setup.
