Console or no console?

Some have maybe seen my other post on the general pages about the console delete.

As track racers what do you think that maybe GM Performance should offer this as a track package? Like who cares if they can put your gum pack in the console storage area? What I like about it is that the shifter handle is higher now because your forearm and elbow doesn’t come into contact with the console anymore. A slight weight reduction.

Back in the day Mopar offered it as an option to have the console or not.

Where did you put your mode and traction control switches?

Inside the glove box has both mode and traction control there, to the left of NOS controller you can see the USB input jacks. Red switches by the vents are my line lock and two step controllers.

Hey BlackbeastSS2 any chance you could take some measurements of your console while its out. Im trying to figure if I can fit the camaro console in my LT1/8l90 equipped 55 truck. looking for over all length, front width, rear width and distance from the back of the console to the back of the shifter trim. Thanks!

IMHO, although I understand the functionality, I don't care for this look because it degrades the interior's finishes appearance

Wasn't just Mopar. Plenty of GM performance cars built before the '70s did not have a console. The console was usually part of an interior trim upgrade. I like the clean look of your setup. GM should have done this on the 5th Gen Z/28s! I don't think there would be a high enough demand for a console delete on the new overly tech saturated vehicles.

The length is just a touch under 45 inches and from the front 13 inches and then it tapers down to the rear to 7.5 inches.

Decided the switches should go permanently in the glove box with adding/extending wires to fit in the glove box. Order a new dash piece and it looks better. Just need to finish that center console carpet with some nice diamond leather stitching. Kirkey seats go in as soon as planted seats sends the brackets.

I ended up removed the armrest of the center console instead since it would lead to very odd shifting positions the way I sit, but I wouldn't go as far as putting the buttons in the glovebox, looks unnecessarily cumbersome when you could have still placed them in the mat.

On my scale it was a tad over 9 lbs. Did it for more the creative, being different, and the 9 lbs weight loss helps in the grand scheme of things down the road. Plus total unobstructive elbow movement.
