Ordered Diff Oil - GL-5? What is this?
I ordered some oil to do my 2nd diff fluid change. When I made the purchase I was sure to double check the part numbers and oil requirements.
I received the oil today. It is the correct part number (88862624) but the label has this weird designation next to the oil weight: GL-5 What is this? This oil is the same part number as the factory oil so I assume its the same stuff, but my previous bottles didn't have this. Am i good to go using this? |

GL5 is a specification calling for EP (Extreme Pressure) applications which you would typically find in Limited Slip type environments as in our rear diffs.
There is plenty of material online that explains differences between the various GL specs. (mainly 3, 4 and 5) Also many Youtube videos. Just do a search, read & watch and you shall understand. |

My fluid, same part number, doesn't have the GL5 on the label, picked this fluid up earlier this year.

I'm noticing a few other differences as well:
The volume on the fluid I'm used to seeing is "Contents: 32oz. (.946 L)" The volume on the fluid I just received is "Net Contents: 1 QT (946 mL)" Could this possibly be from a larger, bulk quantity? That's all I can think of to explain the discrepancy...or it's a rip off? Has anyone else seen this before? |

If you got it from a reputable dealer then it should be fine. Probably just an updated bottle.

I had a shop change out the fluids, and I used the OEM stuff like that for the diff. It seems to run just fine.

Don't have a Camaro or a Camaro Owners Manual but that is the part number recommended for the C7 Z06 diffs. It is, or at least was when I flushed mine, at a pretty good price from Amazon.

https://www.lgmotorsports.com/access...-ls-75w90.html https://www.summitracing.com/int/par...2686/overview/ Especially since reputable shops, like LG Motorsports, who specialize in drive-train and suspensions recommend it, then I trust it to be top notch quality and equal and probably better than the OE/AC-Delco stuff. |
