A bad day..
So I took my car to get the 1500 mile service today. I’ve been putting it off but not driving it. I pick up the car from my mechanic and about five minutes later the tpms says I got 21 psi left in the driver front tire. I think damn picked up a nail. Get home and look, found a plug! WTF?
The dealer really sold me a tire with a plug? Wouldn’t the plug be worn down after a 1000 miles? I can’t imagine why the mechanic wouldn’t say something if it’s his fault. What do you guys think? The last picture is my fender after hitting a electric box in the garage pulling it back into the garage. All this and I have a performance driving course at Somona Friday. Guess I’ll lose that $500. |

Just looking at the picture, that doesn’t look like a plug...Also looks like you may have a cut to the side wall, I’d be concerned about that.

That really sucks, but why miss your track event? Is the fender interfering with tire? If not see if you can order a new 3R from tire rack tonight, they often deliver in one day in CA so you could have it by Friday. Then you can make the event and fix fender next week
Your tire reminds me of the dealer issue I had, Keyes Chevy in Van Nuys tore the bead on one of my 1600 street miles GY 3Rs removing to mount PS4Ss and denied they did it. That plug looks bad, shouldn't be so big or visible, and maybe shouldn't be plugged so close to shoulder on an R comp. |

When you zoom in on the picture, it almost looks like a metal rod is protruding from the sidewall towards the center of the tire. Maybe it's just the way it looked at the time. Also, do you have any other pics the damage from the electric box? The one that is there is a little deceiving and indistinguishable. Regardless, a bad day for sure. Sorry brother

Thanks for the advice and kind words guys. My mechanic thinks he may be able to get tires tomorrow.
Shez18, the fender is just snuffed. I got some of it off with polish! |

That tire should not have been repaired. That is no-patch area, ie tire is scrap.
Hard to tell, but looks like sidewall is cracked ? Turns the lights on or flash on and retake the photos. 2019 and folks still taking potato photos.

Wait so you brought your car in for service and they damaged and plugged your tire without telling you?
Was this a dealership? |

If that is a plug, then it's an outside one at that (meaning they didn't take it off the rim and patch it from the inside).

OK so I found out that's not a patch.. It's the run flat goo. I must of hit something a few minutes after I left the gas station which was 10 min after i left my mechanic.
I'm sure it wasn't the mechanic. No dealership! Not after they delivered my car with the radio and bass all the way up! I timed the leak when i go home. In ten minutes the PSI went from 30 to 23. The mechanic and I BSed for at least 20 minutes. He's got a Camaro too. I went to the gas station, filled up and then about ten minutes later the TPMS alerted 24 psi. It's just a bit of bad luck is all. Too bad that $500 for the course tomorrow is nonrefundable |
